DME update - recommended!

I had my local BMW guy update my 2011 e90 DME to the latest software. I believe this is 240E. I've noticed, immediately, a couple of differences - cold start is not as loud and clattery as it was previously and it quickly settles down. Most prominently, however, is that drivability in normal mode is better. The car seems to pull a little more urgently in the lower revs than previously. Generally, the car seems smoother, yet with a greater sense of torque.

This is not scientific, of course, and I don't have any objective data. That said, I'm pretty happy with the update. I was charged one hour shop rate to get it done, but I would say the difference is worth what ends up being the cost of an air filter.

Had it done at a local BMW shop when I was getting my car checked out for a stall episode. My dealer won't update the DME unless they attribute a fault to the DME.

That sucks! I love BMW cars but I cant stand their service standards! All updates IMO should be included for the life of the car.

Totally agree. From what I've read, updating the DME is less error prone on an Autologic than the equipment that BMW dealers use.
