Exclamation Need help/advice ASAP

Ok, so there was some rain/thunderstorm and i accidentally left my window open 1/10 when i visited my friend. It being showered on for about a hour until i noticed it. Water everywhere on the leather seats/door arm rest.

What can i do now? Is my leather F*cked??

I took off my shirt and dried everything off, got home and took a MF towel and went over everything again.

Anyone have any experience with this or any advice???

Im kicking myself in the ass for being so careless.

THanks Laszlo, those are some comforting words. Thank god it wasnt for long and the window wasnt open that much.

The arm rest on the door is pretty wrinkly and loose, i hope it tightens up tomorrow.

I feel as if i just left my first born in the rain, all alone and wet.

ouch, but at least its something you dont see, this is really going to haunt me for a LONG time.

I just hope the wrinkles will go away, the door armrest leather is loose...so leave it in the sun tomorrow and condition right??

I dont think im going to get any sleep tonight.

I'm thinking no direct sunlight - natural warm air-dry. Condition a small spot afterwards - if looks good... continue.

You might also be getting wrinkles from the padding underneath... changing form a little... causing some slack in some places on the leather... which should flatten out once dry.

Don't freak out... see what happens first.
Thanks buddy, i will do those.

GET A DEHUMIDIFIER SOON (if your carpet got very wet).

You should be able to blot most of that away but if ut get underneath the carpert and into the padding below mold and smell could be a big problem. Good luck with the leather. Let us know so we may use your advise if some one else does the same.

ha! no worries..it will be fine. i had a 996 with extended leather in the past(leather everywhere) and left the window completely open once in an unexpected downpour. forgot about it until i returned to the car...entire driver's side was drenched..just dried it off and nothing bad resulted. it's like spilling a glass of water(or alcohol ) on a fine leather couch...it happens. it'll be fine my friend!

How dare you leave your car out in the rain. I check the weather before I leave the house!

I was careless, i thought i closed the windows, the passenger side fully closed but i dont know why the drivers side didnt. It was really dark too and i guess i just didnt notice since i was in a bit of a rush. That is def. the last time that will ever happen.

I think its a bit obsessive that you won't drive your M in the rain. cars are designed to be able to withstand water.... .

But to each thier own. Since you only use your M on dry roads, maybe you should get these:

Yup I know it's obsessive plus I don't know how long this compulsiveness will last. I might one day just say F it and drive it in the rain. Although, snow is out of the question

My friend has a 2005 M3 and he's never driven it in the rain so it looks immaculate.

Fifth, i got my leather wet a bunch of time, im in and out of my car all day during work...i never experienced "loose" leather...but i did get some discoloration...which then dried out and went completely back to normal.

Im sure the leather will tighten back up when it drys...i dont think bmw would put leather in an M3 that gets destroyed from being wet once. U know?

i think she'll be fine!

Your leather was tanned in water. It will be fine. The areas that you would need to be concerned about are the electronics that got wet; but today, even those are fairly resistant to moisture.

Thats great to hear! I took her out to "tan" in the sun for a bit, its not as wrinkly but i did notice a discoloration, the leather seemed much darker and had a slight funky smell.

I was really happy the electronics are really sealed well and everything still works! I just hope my leather likes moisture.

Fifth...don't worry...I have left the sunroof open numerous times during thunderstorms...

I did it twice in one week on my MB S430...never had any problems...just do your best to get it dried out...
