I actually had something like that happen to me the other day on the track. I was running in S6 with DSC off, it was pretty cold and wet. Basically, I was in 3rd gear, and as I pressed down on the throttle, it was like the clutch would slip, the engine would rev from around 3000 to 4200rpm, and would only shift up if I let go of the throttle a bit. It happened twice, and in the same spot on the track, so I think it may be something either to prevent excessive wheel spin and protect the tranny.

Just adding another data point to an old thread. My DCT also gets slow to shift after 20-30 minutes of hot laps. This was during a 90 degree very humid day at Barber, running 1:48's. The car got to the point that shifting was taking around a second per shift... (mainly delay before shifting began). No delay for the first several laps, I think it was heat related.
Oil was getting to slightly above the dot between 210 and 300. 08 DCT S5, DSC off recent software 36k miles, no fluid change yet Plan to change the fluid, and if the issue arises again, bigger DCT cooler. Last edited by Porschefile; 08-22-2012 at 07:56 PM.. |

If you're shifting a lot, the DCT will het hot and shift slower. I got this one time.

Guess I'll have to use 3rd gear more next time. Does anyone know if S4 is easier on the trans temp vs. S5? Thinking it through, it almost seems like S5 would be easier bc of less time spent slipping (and thus generating heat). |

I was at Streets of Willow about a month ago. It was about 100 degrees and the track was very hot. The sessions were about 20 minutes long, I believe around 12-14 laps.
I was in S5 MDM most of the day and the DCT was flawless. It really shines on the track. I ran S6 DSC OFF for one lap and didn't have any issues. The S6 shift though on the straight is neck snapping. |
