My W6 is way under-powered, pre-amp??

I had my 12" W6 installed a while back on my M3 but it barely hit and I was told I needed an additional pre-amp installed (in additional to the sub amp) because of the surround sound system. What EXACTLY do I need so I can finally get this thing right??

Anyone in the L.A. area able to recommend a good shop to do this install? Everything is already wired..

MMats 1400.1 it's not the AMP I used to have 3 12" W6s running on this amp.. I even tried a JL500.1 thinking it was a while back but that's when I was told I needed a pre amp because of the surround sys

I do not think you need a pre-amp. Seeing that you are in santa monica, i'd recommend Audio2000 on olympic blvd. just west of the 405. They have good rates, and my friend who I recommended to them was very happy as well. They always have a few nice cars there that they are working on. I'd definitely check them out. I'd also check out how your sub is wired up. Depending on what type voice coil your w6 has, you might be only pulling a small wattage out of your amp and need to wire it for a lower resistance load. (If I remember right, the w6 is a dual 4ohm voice coil, so you have many options of what impedance to run)

Well none of the wires on the actual speaker have changed since I first had them installed in 2002.. I'll check out Audio2k make it was wired incorrectly

If you take out the sub from the enclosure and can draw a diagram of how its wired (series or parallel), I might be able to help you out. I'd definitely check out Audio2000.

because no one else on the forum is using a pre-amp.
are you using a line output converter?
how did they tap into the factory wiring?

I would look here first. If the rear outputs were used, the sub bass is filtered out of that line.

Either your wiring is wrong, the gain on your line output converter is turned down (some like by PAC have a gain), or you tapped into high level inputs for the speakers instead for the subs. No way to find out unless someone sees your setup in person.
