Stock exhaust specifications

Everyone is speaking about aftermarket-exhaust. To have some "facts" to be compared i īd like to ask this community for some figures to the stock exhaut (loudness standing/moving, weight and so on).

The stock exhaust is quiet, way too quiet. The car is much more fun to drive since I've added the Remus.

Best advice... dump the stock for an after market.

My M3 is approaching a year old next weekend (21st Dec08). While it was stock for 9months i racked up 3657miles. After deciding to spend some dosh on the car in OCT/NOV to fit a Gruppe M intake and Vorsteiner Titanium exhaust, I've racked the car up to 5730miles. Its been sooo pleasurable to drive since the exhaust upgrade.

Am now waiting for the AA X-pipe for the added grunt and minor power gains due in late DEC08 or early JAN09

Go enjoy your M mate

Yeah i dont think there is official word on the db figure of the stock one. But i realise how much sound this S65B40 is capable of with just an exhaust mod like the ACS race. Its LOUD. I cant stop thinking how much louder it will be without the mid-cats and resonance box.

+1 on this... the M3's engine is capable of some loud noises with just a simple muffler swap... i got magnaflow mufflers on my M and i dont think i can live with a car that's any louder.

At a recent trackday, my stock system was measured at 95dB @ 6000rpm

Not exactly quiet... stock E46 M3 & CSL were comming in under 90dB.

I want more noise low down, not at the top end... not sure which aftermarket system will give me that though.

From Nate at IND in the Eisenmann thread, these are the figures on the stock exhaust:

moving vehicle = apr. 75 db
stationary vehicle = 92 db at 6.225 1/min
value of backpressure = 0,47 bar at 2. gear and 0,51 bar at 3. gear
weight of the muffler = apr. 21 kg
