I am looking for e9X OEM MANUAL shift knob. I will pay cash and am willing to me ASAP! Please PM me! Thanks for the help guys! Went to dealer they close @ 3. Got there @ 3:02... Sigh

Can someone confirm that I can NOT just simply screw knob off and swap? Dealer is telling me I have to buy a whole new boot entirely. Not too fond of that idea since I would be losing my stitching as result of.

Not sure what you are looking to do but the E9X knob is sewn into the boot. When you buy an OEM one it all comes as one piece knob and boot. Only way to seperate the knob is to cut it out of the boot.

This seems way more involved than I was assumed. I was looking to replace the knob on my 1///M with the knob from the ///M3 without giving up the orange stitching...

Ok. I'm not trying to be negative. We all enjoy personalizing our Ms. But the 1M is such a rare and unique beast that I would just encourage you not to change any of its bits. You've got a collector's car that is unlike most anything else on the road.

If that idea is not a concern for you, and we're just talking mechanical, then do something that will actually improve performance such as installing a short-shifter. Active Autowerke has a nice one, though you'll have to double-check its compatibility with your 1M.

No worries I wasn't sensing negativity, just looking for justification. Believe it or not I stray away from the over done look as best as I can... I just do very subtle changes to make the car look like a better version of stock... if that makes sense. As far as the shift knob that is exactly what I was looking to do, make the throw shorter. I will inquire...

I hope BMW comes out with a similar exhaust system for the 1M as they did the M3. I love those extra long pipes with the M etched in...
Heres a phone pic of my baby... I think the M stripes will give it a very clean touch! Let me know your thoughts.

Let me get this straight... you want to replace the awesome E46 ZHP shift knob of the 1M with the giraffe E9x M3 shift knob???

If you want the M3 knob you will have to use a blade to remove the new knob from the new boot, then, secure the new knob using zip ties. It's pretty much the process I went through swapping to the older ZHP knob on my E90

I am starting to feel this way! Finding minor things to mod just to mod them. I will leave it alone...

M3 shift "stick" is awful. I call it a stick because that's what it is, a tall, hollow, soft piece of plastic that gives a rubbery and soft feel in shifting. I modified my M3 to the same ZHP knob your 1M comes with in order to achieve a shorter and more solid feel. You already have one of the best knobs available to you, I'd leave it that way.
