M3 vs CL63 NA
A good buddy of mine just picked up a 2009 CL63 AMG. Like most AMG owner's he thought his car was the fastest thing on the streets. After trying to explain to him power to weight he quickly challenge me to a friendly run.
We did a couple of pulls and I totally demolished his 75k purchase. He is taking it back to the dealership this week to ask them if that was suppose to happen? lol I couldn't help but ask the question why did mercedes put that motor in the S and CL class? What was the Amg department thinking? |

I had an s55 - they are big cars but go well for their size. Not sport cars at all!
I think most of It is marketing, amg is just another trim level for the heavy cars. The sportier ones are a little diferente, Like the c63. |

What year was your s55? At least the 55 had a supercharger to tow around all the extra weight.

Two totally different machines. The CL63AMG (your buddy's 09 is equipped with the 6.2 V8 - will go down in history as one of the best engines ever made. Current CL63 is a 5.5L Bi-Turbo) is one of the most comfortable cruisers available.

Im not complaining too much about the engine. I questioned why would mercedes put that motor in such a big car? I think it should've been exclusive to the c, clk, cls, and e class only. I owned a 2010 s63 and the only thing I enjoyed about it was the exhaust note.

CL63 is a cruiser; was never intended to be a race car.
We did a couple of pulls and I totally demolished his 75k purchase. He is taking it back to the dealership this week to ask them if that was suppose to happen? lol what is the dealer suppose to do about this? He should do his research before buying. It's a damn nice car if you ask me. |

OP is talking about an 09 CL63 AMG, which has a 6.2. He then was wondering why MB would put the 6.2 in there. I asked him what other engine would MB put in there to propel a CL63 AMG other than the 6.2 and you think the 5.5 would be better suited?

To me the 5.5 is just fine for the 99.99% of owners out there, when you stuff that 6.2 in there, it makes the car faster and changes the character of the car, but in no way are CLS, CL, S, and E class cars designed to be track cars. Personally, the only 6.2 cars I would consider buying would be the C63 or SLS. That's it. |
