e92 LeMans Blue First Detail
Just picked up my car last week and had the pleasure of detailing it "fresh" from delivery. I asked the dealer not to wash or prep it.
Here's what I did: Two bucket wash with Gilmour foam gun using Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss slightly concentrated to get a nice clean surface. Clayed using Detailed Image Ultra Fine Clay Bar and Dodo Juice Born Slippery Clay Lube. Second wash. There were really no swirls marks on the car (only the trunk from the rear spoiler install) so I used Meguiars M205 with an orange light cutting pad and my Porter Cable 7424 XP to "wake up" the finish. In a few small areas I also used Menzerna Super Intensive Polish PO83 with an orange pad. After the M205 I used Chemical Guys Extreme EZ-Creme Glaze with Acrylic Shine II to prep the surface and create a nice bond for the Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant. Applied first coat of BFWD and let it cure for 12 hrs. Applied second coat the next day. I let that coat cure for 12 hrs also. Finally applied a top coat of Chemical Guys E-zyme Natura. Wheels and exhaust tips were treated with 2 coats of Blackfire Metal Polish. Tires were treated with Blackfire Long Lasting Tire Gel. Interior was treated with 303 Aerospace Protectant and Leatherique Pristine Clean. Engine area was also treated with 303. Door jams, underside of trunk and hood areas were given two coats of Collinite 845 Insulator Wax. I must say I was very pleased with the results and all of the products used. Not a professional so I'm sure there is room for improvement but the car really looks great and most of all I had an awesome time detailing my new M. Here are some pictures from the dealership: Here some pictures after my "detail": Last edited by Fsarc; 11-25-2010 at 09:38 AM.. |

Wow, car looks very clean!
Did you have the dealer install all of those parts before redelivery? The tires, painted reflectors, side grills, black hood vents, Performance splitters and spoiler, etc.

VPC did the front splitters, dealer did the rear spoiler (they did an excellent job), Pirelli tires were OEM. OEM Edition Series Black Chrome front grills and side turn signals I got from Tischer. IND tinted the lens for me on the side turn signals and the painted reflectors (perfect match and fitment!) and gloss black hood vents are also from IND. Pedals are from Ultimate Pedals- really nice quality and look. I popped in most of the pieces at the dealer when I picked it up. Pedals were installed when I got home. |

Looks very nice..... It looks like you made sure that the dealer did not detail your car just like I did
Wow, they now come with Pirelli's?

Car looks fantastic. Are you sure you wanted to use cut on virgin paint though? Wouldnt clay have been sufficient?

Thanks. The car took about 7 weeks to get back to from the Euro Delivery so I figured that was enough curing time for the paint. The M205 is primarily a finishing polish and although I used a light cutting pad I don't think it was aggressive on the paint at all. I was surprised at how good the paint looked after hitting a small section with the M205. It made the blue really pop so I did the whole car. Worth it IMO.
