'13 Cherokee SRT8

A buddy just got a '13 Cherokee SRT8 and he wanted to see how it would do vs. a regular M3. Simple test run.

Results
M easily pulled ahead 0-60, 60-130, etc. several times. It certainly was in my rear view and wasn't dusted, but I was pulling away especially after 80ish.

I have to say SRT8 is very well built and not like most American Muscle Cars I've ridden. Materials are pretty nice, and certainly worth the reasonable entry price of $50k. Navi is garbage though, but that's the only gripe I would have. It's a very nice alternative to a X5m etc. for a lot less money.

Somewhat surprised - I would have thought that a beast like that with an auto would beat an m3 in a dig. From a roll, not so much.

Exactly i have the 6.1 liter cherokee srt8 and from a dig it will rip my 6sp M3 all day. So i would have to believe that the 6.4 with the 30+ horses would definately take it. But yes past 80mph it's a total dog. I can't really see the dct being all that different. But then again i have no experience with that.

Have you actually run them against each other or are you going off of acceleration feel? I only ask because the numbers I've found on the SRT-8 aren't terribly impressive.

Here is Edmunds running it at mid 13s in the quarter. That would put it about equal to an E46 M3, but would still get walked by an E92 6MT.

Yes! Matter of fact i am going on acceleration feel. You might be right. The butt dyno and that loud obnoxious exhaust might be telling me otherwise. Both vehicles are stock also. It's just feels insane the way that truck hooks up and grabs offs the line.

You are experiencing the classic feeling of a high low end torque curve that peaks very high and drops "feeling" faster' than the m3 with a very linear delivery of power that just keeps pulling. The m3 never has the instantaneous change in acceleration like a low end monster torque car has so you feel a bigger thump in your back and it is much shorter lived for one and less linear which makes it feel faster and indeed for a moment or two it is "faster" because it changes acceleration so quickly but its that one instant that creates the illusion

^ I get what your saying but that initial rush from the SRT8 is just so much more satisfying then the M. Don't get me wrong i love my car and given the option i would choose the ///M any day. Handling, looks, etc and i guess i think it feels faster because i don't drive it as often being it's my wifes car. But like i said after about 70-80 mph it's just a gas guzzling p.o.s.

6.4L Hemi, yes sir. If you look at basic perf. specs for SRT8 on C/D etc., the M3 is faster in every category, especially 1/4 mile. So I guess I'm not that surprised.

Yep. M3 6MT (actually) killed it from standstill. SRT8 0-60, is about 5 seconds anyways, so that's not much faster (if at all) than a M3, so no surprises there.

Agree, and even I thought the SRT8 would do much better, but that torque / butt dyno plays tricks on you. Also, I don't think the aerodynamics were doing the SRT8 any favors after 80.

By the way, the 2013's are listed at $63k and the 2014's are listed at $69k on dealer floors. That's a lot of $$ for a Jeep if you ask me. Even if it does have a 6.4L hemi.

The srt8 will need a higher stall torque converter or a launch control to utilize its torque and awd. I've seen those things fly with just a s/c and torque converter, as in 10 seconds fast. The tranny is the biggest hindrance for performance on that car as it was on my 300c srt8

The 2014 SRT8 gets a new 8 speed with launch control. The 5 speed was the one thing that I couldn't look passed. Hopefully the reviews are good on the new tranny!

My sister has a new jeep fully loaded, its got a V8. but not a STR8 v8.

I must say that thing is pretty nice for a jeep, very solid feel to the car. I can see a SRT8 driving very well.

They built that car while still under Chrysler Daimler so it shares the chassis and many other things to the new ml350.

I was looking at this last year as a daily driver and for almost 70k sticker that is pretty steep if you ask me. Much better looking interior than the old SRT8, but the older one just looked a lot better in my opinion. Easy and daily inexpensive to mod these SRT8s though and it's amazing how well the older ones hold their value.

With a new 8spd tranny that will be a huge improvement to the car.

With 8 speed tranny, I would choose it over x5m.
As a matter of fact , last year in Bangkok, I was with a 8 speed Tranny...
She/he was slow , fast , rapid , quick , swift , warp , lightning ,and then slow again.
When " it " licked my feet , it gave new meaning to " heel an toeing"......
