A Volvo?!?
I just ran across a fun video test drive of the concept Volvo S60 Polestar. Back in October forum member ms372 posted another video of this high performance Volvo, but that was a somewhat biased comparison test featuring a pro Volvo touring car driver: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...light=Polestar
This one is by Chris Harris, one of the best auto journalists working today. He's very entertaining--smart, funny, a better driver than 99% of us, and the only journalist with the cojones to call Ferrari out for their practice of only allowing factory-massaged examples of their cars to be officially tested. Anyway, this Volvo is not being mass produced, but it shows what their future may be like. Certainly sounds better than the S80 that my father-in-law had a few years back--that thing drove like a 1980s Oldsmobile.

The s60 along with the c30 polestar are no joke. They are really impressive. Although they are fantastic drivers cars they get over looked for being a Volvo.
+1 Chris Harris being the man. |

If you know your cars, you should also know that Volvo makes (made) some serious cars..... But then, my avatar is a giveaway

I like the polestar and chris harris, but kinda a pointless video.
Motortrend ran the car at Laguna Seca with Randy Pobst at the wheel and got a 1.40.8. Different day, but Pobst behind the wheel of an e92 M3 got a time of 1.42.96 So 501bhp, 424ft-lb torque, pilot sport cups, ohlins, 3600lbs.....2 seconds faster than a M3. I'm guessing the same driver with a M3 on sport cups could run roughly an equal time. Pobst did mention that the car did understeer a good amount when really pushed. Wondering if this is due to the AWD or could be minimized with proper set up of the ohlins. |
