M3 not as fast as i thought

Hi All,

test drove an e92 M3 today with a view of px my e92 325i in for one. Although the car is fast, I wasn't as blown away as i thought I would be. only when i put the gear change on full speed and used the M3 did it feel really fast. Was I expecting to much, have wanted an for about 15 years M3 since I was 10 and now i can finally afford one feel a bit under whelmed.

how many revs did you give it? It pulls to 8400rpm and doesn't really come alive until 5000rpm+

I had a 325i vert before and the M3 is worlds apart!!

it's done the Ring in 8:05 (8sec faster than an M5/Ferrari 355GTB/Merc C63 AMG, source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring_lap_times)...granted it was a professional driver, maybe you were doing it wrong?

the m3 is a high revving car and although it feels "slow" its actually quite fast. i think its bmw's perfection in engineering. smooth yet fast..(numbers dont lie)

yup takes a while to get used to driving an ///M Car. High Revving is the key.

have a look at the lap time in the back of EVO magazine (it might be car) the is only 0.5 seconds slower than the SL65 AMG Black round Bedford! and only 1sec behind the Lambo LP640.
Its a monster in disguise! Just put you foot down in 3rd all the way to 8500rpm.

I was also underwhelmed by my first test drive in an E9x M3, but I bought one anyway and agree that once you drive the car in the way it needs to be driven, it totally blows you away.

Dude how can you not tell the difference between 214bhp & 414bhp?? Did the salesman actually let you drive it? Seriously, once you get past 5000rpm the engine tone will get you even if the speed doesn't!

stick it on a track and then say its not fast... Its only 0.5 seconds slower that the SL "Black" round Bedford, and has an identical time round the Nurburgring as the R8.

There are plenty of cars out there that give the impression they are fast. Its only when you plant the revs or let a pro driver take you out then you realise just how fast these cars are.

Saying that though I am having more fun in the Lotus then I ever did in my M3! and at a fraction of the price

When I had a test drive I didn't think the M3 was amzzingly quick and told the salesman this but we were in normal town driving. He directed me to the motorway and told me to have a blast which of course I didn't need telling twice.

Put it this way, I went back to the stealership and done a deal on a new one.
