Intake manifold cover removal

How is this done? I wish to do a little custom paint job.

It's pretty straight forward. Remove the strut bars, remove the intake box and you will have to unscrew I believe the oil box or coolant (can't remember as I am not looking at the car). Just push this slightly to back and left.

The next step is unscrewing the clamps for the throttle bodies. Make sure to have a long screw driver in hand as they can be a little tough to get to, but conveniently located.

Slightly unscrew these and make sure you keep the clamps in a similar position when putting the manifold back on.

Next careful start pushing the manifold off of the throttle bodies and whala!!! It should come off. Those Screws in top of the manifold are not necessary to touch.

Email me if you have any questions. I'm sure all the guys on this site should be able to help you as well.

Its not too hard to take off and put it back on...

Not sure if you DD your car but so that you wouldn't be without it, I'm not sure if you know that IND offers a core exchange policy when they do the paint work on the Plenum and Air Box.... They paint you one up ship it and you just return your OEM within 14 days with the label they send you....

Scroll down to about the middle of the page, they offer 3 different packages depending on what your interested in.....

Here's a picture of what they did with mine

Thanks guys. Very informative!

I like the IND painted ones but I do DD the M3 so that's not really a viable option at this point. Besides, as much as I like those, I have something else in mind that will be quite amazing.

I wonder if there are any other options for capping the throttle bodies? I think they look kind of cool as stand alone.

You wouldn't be without one with the Core exchange policy, you would get a plenum that has already been returned and painted for you. Then you'd ship yours in and someone else would get it. 0 time down except for when your installing the new one....

Are you thinking more along the lines of velocity stacks? Have you seen the ones from Fluid Motoring Union?

Now I see what your are saying. And yes, I think I was thinking of the velocity stack idea.

As far as the plenum, I do like the color choices available from IND but I had in mind doing the racing flag on one side with the M colors similar to the vinyl on that M seen here on the forums.

The manifold is one piece. While it looks like it can be separated, it cannot.

Let us know how it went! I am very interested in hearing how it goes with the air box cover since I am planning on painting mine. Just trying to decide what type of paint...am considering engine bay paint to ensure it can stand up to heat...but I do not know yet if it will bond to the plastic.

LOVE the IND plenum cover. It is the next item on my "to buy" list....

I've had ZERO time to devote to that. I will probably have a little more time this upcoming week. I DO have something VERY cool in mind but I am waiting on some materials to show up before I get started!
