Dito on what armyav8tor said. Are you going to take delievery in Europe? If not there is a place in Munich that rents high end sports cars. I'll send you more on the sites to visit, directly to your e-mail.

I drive to the Nurburgring from UK. I drive the car onto the Eurotunnel train at Dover (1.5 hours from London). 35 mins on the train, then 4.5 hours drive from Calais in France to the Ring in Germany Easy!

Yep, Stella is from Belgium. Go to Cologne and drink the local beer and the German black beer called Kostrizer. It's fantastic, not like a Guiness but it's a black beer. Dam good!

All depends on what you are willing to pay A track ready 1 series will set you back EURO 750, and the excess on the insurance is hefty

I've done 24 laps on the ring and have caught a ride in the M5 taxi. I suggest that when you get to the ring you go to the taxi desk and ask if there are any open seats. They will add your name to a list and if a seat opens up you will get a ride. This works because when people book the car they book for one or two slots. So, if you catch a ride, you split the cost and ride with some strangers. It'll cost about 60 Euro. This is the easiest way to catch a ride. I waited about one hour.

My fastest lap was a 9:15 with two other passengers.

Here is a pic of me:

I assume the times folks are posting are BTG times??? I did a 10:45 BTG in a 95hp Benz B class on snow tires. LOL, the tires were screaming in every corner.

Swiss - What do you mean the M3 falls apart on the track? I have 4 track days in mine and the only issue I have is brake pad transfer that occurs after parking, which can be avoided by allowing the brakes to cool prior to parking. What issues did you have? Mine performed flawlessly.

To the OP, a trip to the ring is a must. It's the mecca for driving enthusiasts.

The fastest time I have been able to get with the M3 is 8:36 BTG with other laps around the 8:40 to 8:50 mark. It has been extremely difficult to get fast times due to the sheer number of cars on the track (damn tourists! j/k). The 8:36 lap, I spent a lot of time behind bikers (they're fast on the straights, slow on the corners). I'm signing up for Scuderia Hanseat just so I can get a clean lap.

Learning the corners ain't the hard part, any PS or Xbox will give you pretty detailed play time and hours of fun learning it. The problem is that you will not feel the bumpiness or the cambers at work on the car, so though you can make a pretty good fist of things and 9 minutes should be very possible in little or no time at all the final 15~20 seconds that the Ring Taxi driver is talking about will require some driving skill to unlock.

Great fun trying as long as everything goes well and you occur no offs.

Beware of a corner called Adenauer Forst. Blind apexs, off camber, deceiving turn in points.

Are you able to video during non-tourist laps at private events like Scuderia Hanseat?

I know NÜRBURGRING a bit for having raced there with my ex-RS4, and all i can say is that's a incredible track.

You'll find a thing like that nowhere!

But pay attention, you have not to believe it's an easy thing, it's a very fast track, and because of that and because of the fact it's an old track, if you go out of the road, your M3 has many chances to be destroyed. There is no place for amateurism....

A friend of mine does 8.04 in a modded Audi S2...
And another around 8.20 in an M3 CSL.

Both were not passed by anybody except race cars like race viper, GT3 RS modded or loaded M3s...

Enjoy!

Adenauer Forst is a favorite viewing point (its a long ass hike when the gate is closed though) due to the amount of people that runs off the track there. I might go there this weekend and do some videotaping and drive a few laps if it's not raining. LOL It caught me off the first time I ran with the 335i but it was just a slight oh shit moment, didn't actually run over the curb like most.

I do believe video taping is allowed at Scuderia Hanseat.

If you don't already have a video camera mounting system, I highly recommend www.cruisecam.com It mounts to the back of the seat on the headrest posts and it works great. Shop around and you should find it for about $55. I'd love to see some E92 M3 videos of the ring.

Here's me, going significantly slower with 4 people in the car, 95hp, snow tires, tall vehicle.

Adenauer Forst is at 3:40.
