Yokohama AD08 R recommendations

Anyone have experience with the new Yokohama AD08 R? Considering it for combo daily driver/track use on a 991 Carrera S, as a more track-friendly alternative to the Michelin Super Sport.

I've owned both and prefer the yokos especially if you track the car. They are a little noiser and stiffer sidewalls. I'm very happy with them over the past 1k miles.

Thx,

Had these yokos on my car when I bought it. The ride is a bit stiff, but the road grip is excellent. I don't track my car but taking any corners is a cinch.

On the street, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference but get on the track and you will notice that the ad08's are better right away. After 2 to 3 laps the pss will get greasy whereas the ad08 will continue to grip lap after lap.

I notice a difference on the street. stiffer sidewalls leading to a better steering feel and cornering stability / reduction in body roll

I love these tires, and they are ideal for street / track and that is how I use them

How are they in chillier and wet conditions vs PSS? I'm considering going with them next. I'm also a little worried they might be a tad wide in the rear if I go 295/30/19

No real noticable difference - they both are not good in cold/wet or just cold. As far as width, I believe the ad08Rs are just a smidge narrower in the 295 size than the pss.

Thx,
BC

Thanks for the feedback Barry. I think for highway driving (wet), the PSS is pretty dang good. And in the cold, not for hooning around, just DDing.

Are you sure about narrower? In the other thread, everyone said the Yokos are slightly wider. If narrower, then I'll try them when I need a set of tires for sure.

My narrower comment was based on tirerack info regarding tread width. ad08Rs = 11" and PSS = 11.5" All other dimensions are the same.

Why not just get dedicated track wheels/tires?

My understanding is that Manufacturer dimensions are helpful but not necessarily consistent across brands. Despite the dimensions that you point out above, my experience has been that AD08's run wider and more square than the PSS (or any other tire). I do however think the PSS is a little wider towards the bead due to the larger rim protector built into the design. I know you have had both tires. Don't you agree that the AD08 seems to be wider than the PSS at the shoulder/tread width in the real world?

What wheel width and offset do you have? I have had success fitting 295/30/19 AD08's on 10.5 et25 wheels without rubbing. The same tires on 10.5 et22 wheels rubbed the metal fender towards the rear door on large dips.

A couple of pics with the 10.5 et25 wheels and 295/30/19 AD08's

I'm running 11" rears, I believe offset if 22 but I'm not 100% sure. I barely rubs on that stupid nub on that plastic liner (towards rear of the car).

Edit: Just saw your pics. Your car is definitely lower than mine. Wow that stance is so right

Here's how close mine is. I'd love your opinion if you think the AD08s will work:

Thanks! KW Clubsport 3-ways and MRF Engineering

That plastic nub can easily be dremeled off. The bigger concern is the metal fender towards the front of the car. Aggressive fitments will contact the metal at about 10:00 on the drivers side and 2:00 passenger side. When IND works the rear fenders for wider wheel fitment this is the area that they address. Not the top (12:00) as some people assume.

I can't tell you without knowing your wheel offset. It's literally going to be a matter of mm's. Even if I did know your offset, it would be hard for me to definitively tell you. Offset info would help me make an educated guess. There are other factors such as ride height, camber, and toe settings that can impact it as well.

I hear ya. I'm pretty sure the offset I gave you is correct, but we are still talking about something that will be very very close. I don't really feel comfortable ordering unless I see them side by side. And even then might be too close to call. We'll see, maybe I'll feel brave when it's time haha.

At et22 it will be tight. My gut says it won't fit but I can't confidently tell you either way. I simply haven't installed that tire on an 11" wheel. If you said you had et30 I would say you would be good. You could just buy one tire and test fit it. That tire would sell easily on this forum. You may lose a little money but it might be worth it to you. If I were you I would place one rear wheel of my car on a hill, curb or speed bump in a way that compresses the rear suspension. Then assess the clearance to determine how much room you have. If there is zero clearance then you have your answer (unless you want to adjust your camber).

I love the tire super sticky

Here is my set up:

Wheels: HRE P43SC 19x9.5 ET22/19x10.5 ET27 Satin Black
Tires: Yok's AD08R 265x30x19 front AD08R 295x30x19

I just switchd the fronts from 275's to the 265's as there was very slight rubbing on the plastic liner on full lock, now there is no issues.

Maybe it's just coincidence but I was told my wheels were ET27 at the front, ET22 at the rear (bought them used). Maybe I was just given the wrong information and the numbers were switched. Maybe my rears are ET27 as well?

Regardless, your setup looks so good too. What are you lowered on?

Thanks man I appreciate the compliments, it was all iND's hard work though.

We used the KW sleeve kit. Center of hub to fender is 14" front and rear, or roughly one finger space.

Your car deserves its own build thread, seriously. I'm having a hard time finding more pics of your car haha
