opinion on extended warranty offer
I recently bought a 2011 competition package m3. It has about 24 k miles. I wanted a 2 year extended warranty. They offered a 2 year 24k mile extended warranty for $2700. Covers engine, transfer case, transmission, drive axle, electrical, heating/ air-conditioning, brakes, steering, and suspension. Warranty is through Zurich. Its their standard EW. Other warranties ran about $3k. Worth it? Good price?

Decent price. Sometimes they will add another year for a couple hundred bucks... you may not want that now, but it will make the car easier to sell if you use up the two-year warranty (assuming it is transferrable). Many of these EW companies offer a pro-rated refund at any time during the warranty you decide to cancel, so that is something to consider as well.

It did but OP's car is a 2011 and it is now 2015 so he is either past the four year mark or quickly approaching it...

I just purchased a 2011 E93 M3 with 9k miles on it about 4 months ago. It has 12,500 miles right now. It's a weekend car for me and I don't plan on driving it more than 10-15k a year. I'm going to my local BMW dealer tomorrow for an oil change and I will be asking them about extended warranty. Do you guys think its worth getting extended warranty?
The 4 year warranty was up last October or November I believe. |

Warranties/Insurance is up to your personal philosophy. Is the peace of mind worth it to you? I am willing to pay $3,000 to have a warranty cover me. At the end of the warranty, I will have no regret even if I never used it. The thought of only paying my deductible when an issue comes up is worth a lot to me personally. I am not good with change and the unknown, haha |

Zurich is a very reputable company but your 2 years policy quote seems too high with your mileage.

I just bought 3year/36,000 miles warranty from EasyCare. I was going to go with the PrimaryCare warranty that covers what you listed and I think they wanted about $2400 ($250 deduct) for it. The car I was originally purchasing it from went on vacation the day I was coming in to get it and he left me to his assistant. His assistant quoted me a good amount less for the TotalCare package (2 packages higher than Primary Care, and the top tier), he was looking at the old books and ended up making a mistake. With his price he honored it even though he made a screw up. I called easycare to ask what exactly is covered, and in the packages, (4 total), what's covered is only listed unless you get Totalcare. Totalcare covers EVERYTHING except wear and tear listed. My actuator just started going bad and most likely is only covered by Totalcare, but I need to wait a few weeks for the warranty grace period to make a claim. Hopefully all goes well when I need to get it fixed. My car is a 2008 with 37k miles. According to multiple people as well, Easycare is one of the best for an aftermarket warranty.

I got a warranty through my credit union. 4yrs/48k mi with $250 deductible for $2k. Car is an 09 with 39.5k miles at the time. Looks like I got a good deal compared to the prices some other people are posting.

The warranties will overlap for a few months but I assume the mileage will be used long before the clock runs down.

Just bought a 2012 E93 with 9700 miles. The factory warranty expires in April 2016.
I purchased from the dealer: Wheel and tire coverage for around $2300 Additional BMW warranty extra 3 years (through April 2019) and total mileage up to 70k miles. this was quite expensive at $6700. The warranty is able to be cancelled and is transferable. Seems pretty pricey. I welcome all opinions. Thank You |

Yep, a bit too high on a M3 with only 9700 miles now. You can shop around, and it is not necessary to extend the warranty until a couple months before the original factory four-year warranty expires (sometime this year?). Every dealer seems to have a different price on these OEM warranties, and there is room to negotiate.
You will probably lose money on the wheel and tire coverage as well. Obviously, these types of insurance deals make money for the seller or they wouldn't be selling it. I've totaled a wheel/tire once in my lifetime (in a poorly marked construction zone at night). It cost around $1400 for a factory wheel/tire replacement and re-align. |
