Thumbs up Comfort Access

I am currently stationed in Germany and picked up my new 330i two weeks ago. So far I absolutely love the car and have made good use of the heated seats. Since I am here in Germany I was able to have the car built exactly as I wanted it, and one of the features I included was the Comfort Access. I can't tell you how convenient this feature is. You touch the door handle it unlocks, you touch it again it locks. The seats adjust to the individual key fob, and best of all you simply have to step on the clutch (or break for autos) and push the button to start it. No slots no fumbling for keys. I just wish that BMW had made this a standard feature since many other auto makers (Lexus for example) do. Still. It is well worth the $500 in my opinion. I'm not sure if it can be added later on, but if you are in the process of ordering go ahead and check that box.

Congrats on your new car!

I too ordered my car with comfort access, and loving every sec of it. I don't know if the comfort access option on the 7 series does something that the one on 3 doesn't, but here in the US the cost of adding CA on the 7 is twice of that on 3. So as far as I'm concerned, this option is a steal on the 3 series.

Haven't got a chance to test out the key memory thing you mentioned though (seat position matches a particular keyfob) since I'm the only one driving the car. I suppose I could take my other key and see if my seat position changes.

cheers,
-hkj

I too think for $500.00 CA is a good deal. You guys better jump on it before the price goes up. I can recall when Xenons were $500.00 and as they grew in popularity so did the price. :finger:

Yeah, enjoy your new ride!

How many key fobs do you get with the car?

And can you still open your car from a distance using a remote button?

You get two key fobs and, yes, you can still use the button.

The OBC can handle at least three fobs, however, if you can get the dealer to order you an extra.

We were having this discussion in the m5 forums. On the 5 and 7 series, comfort access works from ALL FOUR dours. That's probably why it costs twice as much - or at least how BMW justifies the extra cost.

I was able to set mine to open all four doors through the i-drive interface.

Where?? I have tried to find that option, but no luck. I can have all four doors unlock when I put my hand in the front door handles, but not the back.

Sorry, let me be more clear. We have the ability to lock/unlock all four doors from the driver's or passenger's front doors. On the 5/7 series, you can lock/unlock all four doors from the rear passenger doors as well.

I was debating whether to order CA and I'm sooooo glad I did. Only down side - I'm now expecting all doors to behave the same way. And they don't.

I love comfort access. I hardly have passengers, and if I do...I'll open the door for them (*front passenger) opening all the doors for everyone. :-)

Well the back doors don't have keyholes, so why should they be the same?

Because when I go to the car to buckle in my son in the back seat, it would be a more Comfortable way to Access my car.

Ah I see.. thanks for clearing that up. It's nice to be able to open any doors of the car with CA. For me though, the only time I'd only open the pessenger door for my girl (maybe only on the first date) so, never had the need to use CA to open the rear pessenger doors.

CA is the best deal of any the options at $455. I only got to use my car for a week, so far and it's the best option. I don't think I'll ever be able to buy another car without CA now.

BTW if your car is built after Sept. 1, you can program all 4 doors to unlock when you pull on the front door handles.

Yeah, what about the rear doors? If you wanted to let a rear passenger in first, can you unlock the rear doors from the rear door handles?

No, only unlock them all at the same time using either of the front doors.

That's what they were mentioning earlier about the 6 & 7's that you can access any door, but of course it costs twice as much as the CA on a 3-series.

If the remote control works, the comfort access would work.

She must have to use the metal key then?

How do you the make the accessories work? Can you turn them on without starting the car first? What about after the car is turned off. Does the auxilary input work without the car running?

In my 545 I have the auxilary input jack in the glove box and I often find myself sitting in my car listening to my iPod while my wife is in a store shopping for long periods of time. Next year we are getting her an E90 and I can see myself doing the same thing in that car as well.

I wouldn't think it would interfere for lots of technical reasons, but I'll look into it....

No you can't, but it really is a minor point. Grap front handle, doors unlock. Open rear door.
