I just went to my local BMW dealership to check out the M3 coupe. The car is 70k MSRP, (1300 gas guzzler) and had a 20k markup. I couldn't help but laugh, knowing what a rip off since 90k gets you a 911 Carrera S.

Massive rip off, but people will pay premium to have the newest toy on the block. GTRs are x2 their base price!

No, you can get GTR's for 10k-20k markup like the M3. But unlike the M3, the GTR has performance that is worth double its base price.

Shelly BMW wants $20k markup for their m3's. They only have 4 and said they won't get any for like another 4 months so that's why they are marking it up. I smell BS, but who knows.

Not a whole lot of love for the M3 in this tread.

Some of us are going to the car for a daily driver and will actually use the back seat and trunk. In addition, there is really no winter solution for the porsche and I am not looking for a 3rd car. So, it is not a fair comparison with Porsche and GTR. Have fun paying for the Porsche scheduled service. I remember paying in the $900 range for the 30,000 mile service. I am a previous 996 owner. It is a great car, but was very similar in performance to my E46 that replaced it.

The E90/92 will continue with this heritage of GREAT daily drivers that are trackable and will allow for a truly connected driving experience. The 335 offers a lot (check out the Vishnu ECM module) and is a great car but it is not an M.

The same $70,000 will get you a 550 and I will take the M3. Just my .02 worth.

The GTR does have a back seat and a boot too. Also, due to its AWD I am pretty certain its better in the snow than the M3.

The "back seat" on the GTR won't hold my three kids (see picture). The M3 sedan will.

As far as the snow goes...AWD is nice...but the difference is in the tires...the Blizzack LM-22 (Z speed rated) that are on my E46 have never failed me...even in a "stage 3 emergency" which means no one is allowed on the road except emergency responders. So, I don't think that you can say that it is "better in the snow" just because it is AWD. The clearance of the undercarriage is also important.

Plus, the M3 does not look like a "ricer" IMHO

I think the GTR looks much better than the M3. The M3 looks like any other gazillion 3 series, and only ppl who really know cars would be able to tell. The GTR is unique, and I peronsally find it better looking. Looks are subjective. And to call that car ricer I think is ridiculous. Thats about the only thing about the GTR that you can bash, because objectively its much better than a M3.

Also, if you were really wanting to carry stuff, like 3 kids, you should be looking at the M5. Especially with the markups right now, the M5 is cheaper.
