Not Again!

Hit another pothole this morning. Same tire, front right. Luckily no blowout. There's a huge bubble. Will need replacement ASAP. I was just changing lanes to merge from Route 4 West to Route 17 North. It was between the 3rd and 4th lane. Be careful out there fellas. I decided to take the M3 to work today, and this is what I get. Good to have the tire insurance. Be safe out there.

Man I think I know of the type of craters you are referring to that basically divide the lanes. I've noticed that they are all over NJ. Rt. 10 to 287, all over 287, 78 east around the GSP. I swear man sometimes changing lanes I need to plan a damn strategy. Now that winters gone they need to fix these. I've been REALLY impressed with what the Volks with fat tires can handle. Hit a couple unavoidable ones that definitely would have bent/cracked a wheel or at least kill the tire but so far not even a scratch. I put a good 2500 miles a month on the car so I guess I've done pretty well.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. You gotta plan to change lanes. How the heck are you suppose to do that with morning traffic and exit coming at you. It's hard to see these craters, sometimes they are camouflaged with the lane markers. Our M3s have no chance. It's like trying to dodge landmines. Nik, you have after market wheels and I'm sure those things cost a ton. I don't believe the tire ins covers that, right? I'd be pissed if I ever bent or cracked those. Glad they are standing up to the test. Have any pics?

Rt.4 and Rt. 17 is riddled with potholes. I've been rendered to using the right lane most times. It gives me enough time and acceptable speed to take to avoid those gut wrenching hits.

Dude, get your shit together. Stop hitting potholes LOL. Stop tailgating and speeding, those are the 2 things that leave you little-to-no time to dodge.

Sorry though I know it sucks. I once hit a pothole in New Orleans that was so bad it popped my front and rear right tires and bent both rims. It was a crater. I was speeding and didn't see it come up.

I can see why they have so many potholes. It's so busy around there due to the malls and shops. I hope they get around to fixing that stuff.

Hahaha, yeah speed and potholes don't mix. Was barely going 40mph when this happened. At higher speeds, I'm sure the tire would have blown and the wheel bent/cracked. Morning traffic around there is insane. When you get further up 17, you can stretch her out a bit. Wouldn't recommend it though, there's lots of cops and it's where there was a tragic accident some time ago. That's crazy you popped and bent BOTH wheels.

I feel like shooting someone whenever I hit these massive holes in the road...I'm not sure who...someone in charge of roads...I dunno...it's a goddamn joke. As if getting flats from nails isn't bad enough...then u got the damn bubbles which just destroy the whole tire...since owning the M, I've only bought used tires with like 50% tread left knowing they will never last their whole life without getting some random damage which will lead them to getting tossed out...bought new rims though so forked out for new rubber...wish me luck.

Seriously, I feel like we NY/NJ have the worst roads in the world (with no exaggeration). We pay the highest taxes and tolls (I need to re-mortgage my house to cross the verrazano bridge these days) and yet have the worst road quality imaginable. I was told by a someone who does pavement work that NY/NJ uses the cheapest quality of pavement material in the whole country to build its roads. Sometimes no matter how fast or slow you're going, these potholes (especially the ones between lanes) are unavoidable. Really ruins the driving pleasure that these cars are suppose to provide.

Ugh, I'm so sorry to see this! I was born and raised in CT, and I remember how bad the potholes can be. Another great thing about living in AZ is no more potholes. Good luck with the repair.

Haha yeah you followed my other thread? Luckily they're in the shop getting powdercoated and not on my car.

The car I had the 2 blowouts with was my old subaru. I could NOT drive a lowered M3 around New Orleans. It would get trashed.

New Orleans too, man....They're worse down there, but it's a more concentrated area of awfulness. Up here, it's the entire Tri-State that has shit for roads, its unreal.

Take a clue from european road builders!! You may learn something!!!

Battleship grey, similar to Biglare's P44SC's. I'm stoked.

Anyway don't want to get off topic, so feel free to PM me or post in my thread if you want more updates! Hopefully they'll be ready soon!

Nah, I don't like Michigan. I LOVE Michigan. Hope they win tonight. Just sucks that it's the same tire. Would like to have the other side switched to new. My rears are shot. I'm just waiting for the right time to change them to Michelins.

I feel the same way. Somebody should be responsible. I heard you can get reimbursed for damage in some states. I bet not in Jersey. At least, I got the insurance to cover. However, stopping by the dealership is eating into my tee time.

Hi Cheryl! How have you been? Did you win any awards with your beautiful M3 lately? It can't be just the car, if you know what I mean. I've never been to AZ, would love to go there on a golfing expedition.

Exactly. I just feel like they don't really care about public safety. I was fortunate to avoid an accident the first time I hit one of those things. Where's all the tax dollars going, really? I know that they have to wait for the weather to get warmer in order to fix the roads, but they can't just leave them and have the public fend for themselves. Unreal.

Yeah, man! Probably best to just go straight, don't change lanes there. I hope no one else suffers damage or even worse a flat.

Drove to work, called Prestige BMW. They ordered the tire and set me up with an appt to come in at the end of the day. I drove to the dealership sweating bullets hoping not to blow out the tire. I'm fortunate that it held up. I tried to levitate thinking it'll lessen the load on the tire and kept it below 60mph all the way. The BMW mobility kit needs a overhaul. It only helps when you have a small puncture on top of the tire, doesn't do $hit for blowouts. I keep reading up on the spare tire idea the members have posted in the years past. I'm gonna have to go that route soon.

Gotta give props to Prestige BMW. Got me in quickly and I'm just waiting for the tire change and off I will go. Hopefully, I'll have enough daylight for 9 holes.

That's prudent advice, however, I'll probably get black zcp wheels next if I change.

It was a painless visit to the dealership. It's done! Happy Easter Everyone!

Yeah, it's from the bump from the pothole. I'm not gonna get it fixed. This wheel has taken a beating.

I think it's an optical illusion. The bubble makes the edge of the wheel looks bent. I'm gonna double check. I don't feel any vibrations or anything. What should I look for? That would suck if the wheel is bent. Would I lose air pressure?

i was looking on my phone. now looks more just like curb rash but when they spin to balance they will be able to see if its bent.
