Finally had a little fun with DSC off
a block away from home
at a red light about to make a right turn Thought to myself, hey wth let's have some fun before pulling in the garage for the night. Hit the DSC button and turned it off, made sure the power button was lighted And there it was the rear tires spun like there was no tomorrow. Somewhat loss control due to traction control not activated. Was quick to counter steer as the front was jerking left and right. Let go of the gas pedal and back to normal after a couple more jerks left and right Only did it because nobody was behind me or in front. stay safe with DSC off guys. |

I turned my DSC totally off on Thursday and thought I had turned track mode DCS back on when I came around a turn and booted it.
The back end went one way, I caught it, over-corrected, and as the rear tires caught traction again I was facing a low median. I went around over the median with all 4 wheels. Needless to say, my car is at the shop now. The initial check shows 2 bad tires, one bent wheel. The rest can't be checked until my new tires arrive and the wheel is fixed. I'm thankful to have an honest and very talented shop near my office that will take good care of my baby. Stay safe out there all. |

If you don't know what ur doing its best to keep dsc on all the time. These cars have very sophisticated yet delicate suspensions and in many cases once you fuck up the car will never drive the same no matter how good your body shop is.

No damage to the front spoiler? I run over a dust bunny and i hear a scrape on the low front end. How much is that going to set you or should I say your insurance company back? |

The M3 is very controllable for an experienced driver if you ask me, no disrespect to anyone. It's really easy to get the rear end swinging with the throttle and when you get off it, the rear end comes back in line
I remember drifting the snot out of my old 350Z. Ah, the good old days |

Chuck Norris drives with his DSC button ripped out!
And his power button set to ultra hyper sport And he prefers his throttle pedal set to on/off

When Chuck Norris ran the nurburgring, chuck ran a zero lap time every time. The club representative at the club said to Chuck: "excuse me sir, but you cant score zero on the nurburgring". Chuck Norris turned towards the man and said, im Chuck Norris, the man then proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by Chuck Norris, Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways.

You guys need to learn how to drive. Do some DEs, and do them with DSC off.

I don't think I'm going to get the insurance company involved. Not sure what the final ($) damage will be. So far I'm in for: 1. 20 mile tow 2. Two new front tires ($550) 3. Front wheel needs to be repaired ($150-$200) I spoke to the tech on Friday and he said he didn't see anything obviously damaged. The a-arms are ok, the struts are fine. The tie-rods be be bent, but there's no way to tell that until it goes on the alignment rack. My other major concern is that the CV's are shot. When I drove the car the short distance after it happened (I was a mile from work) there was a ticking noise that was speed and steering angle dependent. I am hoping it was just the bent wheel interacting with the sidewall. But I think it could be a the CV. |

I agree with the above posts about the risks of driving with DSC off on the street. One time I thought I'd just have some fun on a turn so I shut off DSC, then got on the power too much and too early. I swung farther out than I expected, then over-corrected so my tail now swung even farther out in the opposite direction, then over-corrected again so I ended up facing backward on the road. Fortunately there were no cars anywhere in sight and I had turned onto a 5-lane road, so the only issue was a temporary CEL from not clutching in before the car started rolling backward while still in gear (MAP Sensor High Input code). Unfortunately, my wife and her visiting friend in the car were terrified from the high revs and rotation (even though there was no danger of hitting anything whatsoever) and they hated me for the rest of the day -- figures that the one time I messed it up it'd be with them in the car.
Still, as I've attended more HPDEs and become a better driver, I've noticed that I'm even less interested in these sorts of antics on public roads anyway. I now reserve MDM/DSC Off exclusively for the track; I just don't have a need for those modes on public roads. DSC is a nice safety net because even skilled drivers make mistakes or fall victim to surrounding circumstances, and I've found it's more fun to drive smooth and fast than childish. DSC on lets me be as fast as I think is safe on back country roads out here, and everything else stays at the track where it belongs when I'm having REAL fun with this car.

The obvious damage was the bent front wheel, but until they can test drive they aren't sure what other damage may have occurred. |
