Question Wheel weight with VMR V710's

Guys, I think that I am going to make the move to the VMR V710's. 9.5 front and 10 in the rear. It seems like this will be about 10lbs more than the stock 19's. Do you think that the weight difference of 10lbs is significant? Well, would I be able to notice it. And I don't track the car.

Thanks!!!

To be honest I would go with the Avante Garde version as they are a tad lighter and they are low pressure cast vs. regular gravity cast. To answer your question the 10lbs is just for the wheels and then you add in wider heavier tires you may feel somewhat more sluggish, then again you may not notice it at all, don't know (dont want to know ) how sensitive your butt accelerometer is.

We've ran multiple sets of VMR wheels on multiple shop cars with no problems at all. In any case, the wheels are about 25lbs a piece and we did not feel any difference with VMR wheels as opposed to OEM wheels.

I agree. But the only problem is that the avant's 310 only come in 9.5 front and 11 rear. And no gunmetal. Would have to powder coat. I would assume that 11s on the rear would probably weight the same or more as the 10s for the vmr's. Sucks that they don't make a 10 rear and gunmetal. Decisions decisions.

I would have wanted the 11s anyway, but I didn't know they didn't come in a 10" rear.

I like the VMRs, just wish they were low pressure cast as the AGs are similary priced.

Thanks for the opinion Dave. I ended up just going with the VMR's. The Avant's just didn't have the right size or color. Oh well, I'm sure I will like the V710's a lot. Kinda excited actually

Don't quite understand your post..OEM wheels are low pressure casting, other than the 220s. VMR wheels are gravity casting...The AGs are low pressure casting hence the lower weight and probably a tad stronger.

There is a whole range of casting processes..think of metal molecules being packed togther..cheaper casts will result in more spacing hence more weight, less strenght

There is alot more that factors into wheel weight but this is the biggest

OEM wheels have a much better quality casting

I understand this...OEM wheels that aren't forged are low pressure cast just like the AG wheels, the VMRs are gravity cast a lower measurement of casting. Maybe we are talking the same thing here...

The 19 x 9.5 VMR 710 are 28 lbs.

Yeah, I was reading your post last night. You seemed pretty disappointed with the weight and I can't blame you. However, I know what I'm getting into. I am not changing my tires out just yet so I will probably see about a 14lb increase over stock.

Stock 220's: 23lbs front 26.5lbs rear
VMR 710's: 19.9.5x10's 28lbs front and probably 28.5lbs rear?

So.....About 14lbs with same tires. For now. :roll eyes:

Not trying to start the whole argument of unsprung weight, but from my research and reading the Car and Driver test on this same issue. I probably won't lose much in terms of 0-60 or 1/4mile with this setup. Oh well, they look good and there ordered, so screw it right?!!!

Though I will make one quick point!!!! I believe that all of the vendors need to stop saying that these wheels way 25-26lbs. It is not true and they should either post real numbers with proof or just not say (i.e post above EAS). Good thing for me I did my research so I know what I'm getting into.

Not much research needed, just ask. VMR has all their wheel weights listed on their Flickr page to see:

VMR Wheels | Official Wheel Weights
http://www.flickr.com/photos/vmrwhee...th/6349316706/

I didn't see 19x10 VMRs on the page so listed the 19x11 instead for reference. Obviously there are lighter wheels on the market, it strictly depends on your specific budget you are working with. We've been using VMRs for years and have nothing but praise for them.

So on the 9.5 wheel. If the offset was 22, that would add a little bit of weight right?

And FYI, I just bought my set from Kevin. Great guy, as is EAS!!!

And I guess the weights I have seen are generic on all sites since they are not stating the offset as well, proving that does matter?

Very minimal, the major difference from wheel to wheel is from the actual castings - which differ from width to width (and style).

Congrats on the new wheels, you should be seeing them shortly.

Glad I could help. Yeah I was disappointed with the weight but now have no regrets as they work well for the track so far. My next set will be apex when I go to a full track spec tire. Some R compound. Haven't worked that part out yet.
