warranty problem
so i been having a grinding issue with my 2013 M3 6 speed MT, going from 3rd gear to red line when i shift into 4th gear it grinds and won't go into gear the car only has 18500 miles on it. so i took it to my dealer and they had a "specialist" come down to drive my car, they call me telling me they can't duplicate the problem so i asked them if could take the car for a drive with his "specialist" and they so no he's like batman no one ever sees him..... so then they tell me that i have tuned my transmission and that my hard wire radar is causing the computer to malfunction this is why I'm having grinding issues, now bmw won't fix the car bc of my mods all i have done was a full exhaust with no catalytic converters and an active auto works tune for my O2 sensors so my car isn't reading rich fuel.

It's not about batman , it's about most BMW/Dealers really suck and when it comes to the warranty they walk....no wait they run away with the word mods ..over and over again .
So and now batman is recruited by BMW ...Sounds great ! In short...They suck !

I think BMWNA's policy is, no direct contact between their inspection engineer and the car owner. So, the dealer's foreman or SA has to be the middle man. And therefore, so much depends on the dealer's willingness and knowledge/experience/expertise. And, on that front, most dealers fail their customers. There are so many numbnuts working at car dealers...
BMW makes great cars, so these cars sell themselves and certainly not due to these damned dealers.

A tune for a manual transmission?? Is that for some type of robotic arm that you installed? The shifting and meshing of gears in a manual transmission is completely mechanical, no computers involved.
It sounds like a bad synchro to me. I'd go to a different dealer. This one is obviously trying to bs you. Also contact BMWNA and tell them you are getting the runaround. Edit: if you double clutch and rev match, does it grind? |

This is a classic case. You have a modded car (tune and cat delete) something that is not related is having problems. Dealer blames it on the tune. Typically if you tune any part of the computer, they will know. Even if they are wrong, its enough to deny your claim

The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act is supposed to prevent this kind of thing. I could see a denial if you threw a rod or something actually related to the mods. I guess they could argue that the extra 10 lb-ft of torque from the tune burnt up the tranny but that's really stretching it.

Lets also not forget a cat delete is a federal crime. So the OP has a illegal street driven tuned car trying to get warranty work.... best of luck. |
