Some questions about the Turner test pipes (TTP)

I remember reading somewhere that I would need to get a tune with the TTP because the SES light will stay on otherwise. Is this true? Or can TTP be bought without a tune?

It's really just curiosity, as I need as tune anyway.

If you're removing the cats, you will need a tune to remove the check engine light. The light is more of an annoyance more than anything. A tune will remove the light and give you a nice boost in power as well.

They are just pipes.
  • You can buy them separately and bolt (or with a bit more work for a clearner install - weld) on.
  • Your CEL will light up within about 50 miles and stay illuminated.
  • You can program the CEL out while allowing it to light for other faults.
  • Software gains in combination with pipes are modest compared to the pipes themselves.
  • They are illegal for on highway use and almost for sure won't pass emissions testing (at least in CA).

You don't NEED one, unless the SES light will annoy you.

However if something does go wrong on your car in the future, you won't know because your SES light will already be illuminated.

This is my favorite mentality. Ignore the light. It's not like something else could go wrong

You saved it with your second sentence but the damage was already done.
