Cool mod? Does it work?

Have been shopping around for alternative shift knobs and came across this one:

http://www.bmpdesign.com/product-exe...arch_model/132

Anyone seen/have this and can attest to its performance/durability/ease of installation etc?

Or is it just crap cos I'd never heard of it til today?

I was gonna say, if you need to look at a display to tell you what gear you're in, maybe you should have opt for DCT...

It would probably make more sense if it indicated the gear in brail.

I personally think its a pretty cool feature, or idea. What would be much cooler was if the OEM shift knob illumination lit up the number of what gear you were in.

Why would someone want a display of the gear he's in on the knob?
Certainly, you don't want to be looking down while shifting.

I guess it's just a cosmetic thing.

I will take a crack at answering your initial question:
"1.)Cool mod? 2.)Does it work?"
1.)No, it isnt.
2.)Yes if you are looking to cheapen the inside of your beautiful "practical family sedan".
That is all...

Not trying to be a smartass but what the heck do you need that for? I mean youll never really look down, and you should always know what gear youre in simply by feel of where your shifter is.

Get something else imo.

My car has a cool feature...it tells me what gear I'm in right on the dash display so I don't have to look down at the knob. Oh wait...I have DCT.

Thats one of the perks of having a DCT, but on the other hand you need it on that type of trans. My outlook is if youre driving a manual and youre clueless as to what gear your car is, well you dont belong in a stick shift car, or well you dont belong in a stick shift car...

i think the larger issue is that how are you going to see the indicator anyway? when i drive stick, my hand is on the shifter pretty much at all times.

If you like it go for it. Not particularly helpful IMHO but if you like the look.
