Newer E9x Center Console removal?

I've searched quite a bit and find numerous links that support the fact that to remove the center console I basically just pull as it's all clips. However, I found a couple references that suggest that the newer iDrive doesn't remove like the older one does -- it (older iDrive) required simply 'pulling on it' to remove it.

So, my question is, if I'm pulling the center console, do I just pry the whole thing up (I'm trying to install the sunglass holder/cigarette lighter delete), or do I need to do something different to avoid ripping my console apart and damaging the iDrive controller?

I watched this video and it suggests (unless they redesigned the console insert when they put the new controller in) that I can just do what this guy did, but I want to be sure before I start prying:

Both CCC and CIC/NBT type controllers attach to the top center console trim. You just pull up on the panel and the clips will release. There is a few inches of lead cable to the iDrive, so just unplug it when you can reach under.
