A few questions:

1) how much mileage is on your car?
2) how often do you change the oil?
3) when was the last time you changed your oil?

Definitely not normal, I ran Motu 8100 oil in my E90 330i for 10,000 miles, the oil indicator never showed low or anything.

Crimson,

It's probably due to the turbo. You can try Castrol 0W30 (made in Germany) for the next oil change, it's a bit thicker than the BMW 5W30 oil...and the general consensus is the oil treats the 335i motor very well.
