IB owners! Need advice on tint percentage
Need advice on an Interlagos blue saloon with Bamboo interior. I want a clean look, not too dark, but enough to block out sun rays in the back where my kids sit.
Anyone care to post pictures of their tinted Interlagos? I'm thinking around 35-40% would be ideal? |

I plan on upgrading my stock gunmetal 18's in the future to a darker finish and wasn't sure if a lighter tint would clash with black rims... Your combo looks great!

35% Is the way to go. It's classy. I'm not a fan of the black on Interlagos look.
Thank you also for not assaulting the English language by calling it "tints".

35% all around except the back window. Go 18 or 20% with that one. Classy.

I went that route at one point but from these pictures doesn't look like the car is really tinted. If you go 18 or 20% in the back it will give you a better look and not the 50% look you have going here. Just my opinion.

I have had 20% on a red car and while I liked the look, it was dark. I'm guessing it will be too dark for your taste. 35% seems a bit light sometimes (bright sun) but it's enough to help out but stay classy. You'd be surprised at how dark 35% looks in cloudy conditions also. 50% is practically useless IMO.

AFAIK, the car has tinted glass from the factory -- 6 to 8 per cent -- which those having aftermarket tint installed are wise to take into account when selecting tint.

Wouldn't a darker tint on the back windshield not give you a unfiform matching look? It might bug me to have a different shade from the side to the back...

Check your state's laws before you tint (Google auto tint laws for your state-Pennsylvania?). And remember that the factory windows already have a small tint level in them that will contribute to the overall level. I think Pennsylvania is 30%.
I went with 30%, have IB/BB and love the look. Don't have pics right now since I am on the road but will post later. Finally, do a search on tinting. There's lots of good advice on tinting on this forum. Good luck. Last edited by quadpipes; 07-17-2012 at 10:58 AM.. |

The pic above demonstrates what often gets lost in the shuffle of selecting the "right tint": The angle of the glass relative to light source will cause same VLT rated tint on sides and rear to appear to be different types of tint. A matched look during daylight is achieved by putting a darker tint on the rear glass than what's on the sides unless the rear glass is similarly angled to the side glass a la many SUVs. In the pic, there's SunTek Non-Metal, Nano-Hybrid, Carbon Construction 18% on the rear glass while 35% is on the side glass. With OEM glass having a 6-8% "natural" tint factor, rear and side glass are rated approximately 10-12% and 27-29% respectively post-tint installation.

IMO, 35% will not be dark enough with a light colored interior. When I was getting mine, I noticed that the 35% ceramic was lighter than the 35% metallic so keep that in mind. I decided on 15% ceramic. Here is mine with 15% (Formula 1 Pinnacle).

I did a 35% Carbon Tint, have done it on my past 20 cars, no metallic in it(designed to not interfere with nav/radio/etc), so it looks darker, its really nice
