'08 M3 With No Brake Warranty

Hey guys,

I'm looking at an '08 M3 that looks perfect, with the exception of no brake warranty due to installing performance brakes (which were subsequently taken off and reset to stock setup).

Is this a big deal? How often do brakes need to be maintained on M3s? How much does is this "brake warranty" worth?

Thanks!

who reset it to stock setup? if it was done by a BMW dealer, i'd argue that it should be covered in warranty just the same.

Yeah, it was the BMW shop.

How often do you get your brakes checked up?

I asked for the service history book and am doing carfax report. I was also going to call up BMW to inquire about warranty coverage. Is there anything else I should inquire about (its a used car)?

Hmmm...i'd think that BMW could be able to sell it as a CPO with warranty. Why would they switch the brakes back to stock if they weren't going to sell it with warranty? Something seems a bit weird. Anyone else?

This is private seller - not BMW dealership. I was also planning to bring the car to BMW dealership to check everything (what kind of check is this?).

okay, that explains it. I'm pretty sure that a dealership would just call it an inspection. they probably have different levels of inspection that range in how thorough they are.

So would you buy it knowing about the brake situation? Is it common for people to put on after-market brakes?

I'm going to ask more about that situation - you think that BMW should cover it if the stock brakes are back on?

I think this car was on eBay. All the owner had was stainless steel brake lines and BMW voided his brake warranty. Is this the same car in question?

Yeah, I think its the same. The whole brake warranty thing seems pretty stupid to me. If they put the stock setup back on, shouldn't it be fine (and covered)?

No, I don't think it works like that. As soon as the car has been noted in the system, the warranty is gone, as far as I know.
