Performance Center Delivery - Prep quality
Getting ready for PCD in late June and wondering what peoples experiences have been with receiving their cars and the quality of the paint from the Performance Center?
If I were taking delivery at the dealer I would request it UNTOUCHED from how it is taken off the truck but 1) I'm not sure if that's an option with PCD, and 2) I have to drive it back and not sure the protective plastic is rated for cruising speeds I want to give the crews down in Greer more credit than the average dealer, but I also know they move a ton of cars through that place so could easily see some underlying swirl marks coming out of their prep facilities too. |

contact them and tell them you want the car untouched? that's really your best bet i would guess. also get some 3m tape to wrap up the areas you are concerned about for the drive back

What is the code for ordering Tanzanite Blue on a 2013 E92M3? I have my production slot for Interlagos Blue, but would try to change if you can advise the proper request verbiage.

Do your research. You can't just change your color to an individual color. You need a pre approval from bmwna before ordering your car.

Yeah, not sure what the code is...I went through Francesca at Steve Thomas back in Feb and got the green light from BMW NA on Tanzanite.
Trying not to get too obsessive with the paint, but I also want it swirl-free. |

^^Hey there my friend, its almost time. I bet your getting pretty excited!
I wouldn't worry to much about it. I think you will be just fine. If you are a little nervous about anything just shoot Checa a buzz with your concerns and she will call over and get you set up with as much of your request as possible. I dont think they will deliver a car to a buyer without removing all the regular tape, plastic, etc.. however they most likely can skip the washing process. Def worth a shot, Checa will not hesitate to call over if you ask her to. I can't wait to see what the Tanzanite Blue looks like!!

Having been there many a time, your car has probably been outside for a good period of time before you get to the PDC; having it not touched is pretty tough I am guessing! The PDC is a normal dealer, it just handles the 7,000 factory workers!!

When I picked my car up from performance center after ED the paint was fine but they must have used a rough wheel brush on my ZCP wheels because I had pretty deep scratches in multiple places. If you ask them to not prep your car it will be filthy...the boat + truck transport leaves a lot of dirt on the car. Good luck.

Looks as though I was on the same boat with you, Tanz, and will be taking PCD 3 days after you. You might get to see an Interlagos Blue next to your Tanzanite Blue!

LOL! The classic edition grills and gills, new radar detector, refresh of the Zaino, new towels, etc. are all waiting in the garage. Shopping for new wheels now...... I cannot afford this waiting too much longer......

Did PCD for my silverstone e90. They had prepped it and there were no swirls anywhere. I was a little scared about dealer-prep inflicted swirls and paint damage and toyed with asking them not to do the prep.
In the end I am glad I didn't waste my time on it. They did a perfect job of it. good luck and enjoy your car!

I took PCD in October of last year and I was very happy with their prep. The car was spotless and no swirls that I could see, and I am very anal about my cars. I am not sure what they put on it but it looked there was a coat of wax or something. The paint was very shiney.
You are going to want to take a lot of pictures of the car while you are there so you may want to consider that before asking them not to detail it for you. You'll want shots during delivery, shots outside of the PC, and outside of the Zentrum for sure. I taped up the entire front end with 2 inch blue painters tape for the drive back. I got a lot of strange looks but who cares. I was having a clear bra installed at my dealer so I didn't want any pitting or chips anywhere on the front end. |

Yeah I'm def not sweating the prep anymore, but now onto how much I want to protect the front clip on the drive back. Tough because I def want to take some pics in the mountains and would obviously prefer to leave unmasked for that reason.
Coming around to the fact that it will be impossible to keep perfect especially since I plan to drive it a lot so thinking I'll just maintain the paint as best i can with the best products and enjoy the car. |
