And when I took the Ring Taxi a few years ago, the BMW pilot announced at that particular section of the track [german accent] "this is where Niki Lauda lost his ear....we're still looking for it"

I was at the Ring racing this weekend. Way too many cars on the track and many are driving extremely fast, in extremely fast cars. It is a dangerous track, tons of blind corners and hill tops, and most of the cars there this weekend were, as I mentioned, crazy fast. I put down around 400 whp and I was about the slowest one on the track Saturday morning. It's not like I'm driving slowly either, I usually go around in about 9 mins give or take a few seconds depending on traffic/road surface.
It is, however, the most mind blowing race track I've ever been to, and I will keep coming back as long as it will be possible. The thrill and satisfaction of mastering the more tricky places and the way you feel g-forces up and down the hills are intoxicating. So my point is, it's good that nobody was seriously hurt, but accidents like that will happen again and again unless they put in a warning ligth system or employ like 200 race officials..... What were you racing? Was it a vln race? If it was tourist lapping, then it's is actually more dangerous than a vln race!!!!!!! I've done trainings there and tourist laps ( also known as terrorist laps). It's like swimming in the ocean. It's at your own risk during open lapping. I almost took out a couple of blind bikers in wipperman one day. It's nuts!!!!

I hope they don't change anything and make it a numb safe place. It will ruin the mystique of it all. The fact that it's the biggest most dangerous track in the world is why we all love it. Leave it alone and let it do what it does. Reward the good drivers and punish the bad.

I read that the taxi driver was distracted. That would explain why the other three cars slowed safely.

Saturday evening or late afternoon there was a road accident just 150 ft from our hotel where a motorcycle driver was killed. Those guys drive even more crazy on the winding roads around the Ring than they do on the Ring itself. The locals said they had about 2 fatalities a week in the motorcycle season.....

This is some sad news, but at the same time always a great reminder of how important safety equipment is when we take our cars out on the track. It's always nice to invest all our money in fancy mods, but always make sure you guys invest in proper safety equipment.
What scares me the most is that I often see photos of guys running the Ring without helmets. I don't know the Ring's rules and regulations, but do they not require helmets? To get in an accident like that without a helmet is absolutely terrifying...

Us 1addicts also have a thread going on about this crash...
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...5#post10539885 Here is a good video (that Elsabor67 posted) showing just how little notice the cars at speed on teh track had about that "construction zone". The track management should have had another sign atleast 300 meters before that trailer sign. Quite dangerous for the track management to not be of the mind of safety for the track cars. Quote:
