Best dslr for a photography class

Hey I'm taking a photojournalism course and I need a dslr camera. My dad and uncle owned a photolab and they've said a canon or a nikon but I figured that I'd ask people with a bit more experience with new cameras their opinions.

Buy the cheapest Nikon or Canon DSLR you can find. They all have manual control of the various functions, which is the sort of thing they'll be teaching you about, and both brands have great lens systems you can grow into later if you so desire. You should be able to pick up a decent low end Canon or Nikon DSLR for about $700-800 new or $400 (or less) used.

Recommend you get this one from B&H. Great starting camera and you can grow with new lenses that will also fit a higher end Canon if you decide to upgrade your camera. Always go for the best lens you can afford instead of spending your money on the camera body that will be obsolete in a couple years. A good lens lasts forever!
