Maybe. A neighbor, sure. Completely random sketchy person? I tell him its a hydrogen car. It has no battery, but he can have a glass of water if hes thirsty.

A hottie? I give her a ride, then jump it.

A jump in a public parking lot where there are other people within sight? Sure. A ride? Never. Way too risky.

For me, it really depends on the type of car and person needing a jump. If it's a sketchy looking person in a sketchy looking car, I'll pass. You can usually tell simply by how they ask - that's the deciding factor for me.

I usually would if I have time and feel that it won't do me any harm. If it's like a stormy night outside and there's a bunch of people flagging me down I'd like "I'll call AAA for you but that's the best I can/will do."

I don't mind helping anyone with a jump, just not when I was in my BMW. I heard power surges can occur and completely damage our electrical system. That is going to be a pretty penny to fix. However I guess it can happen in any of the modern day cars now. So techically its not save to do in any modern car.

I heard there are jump cables that you can attach via the cig lighters that will prevent surges. Don't know if that is true though.

my BMW dealership a long time ago told me not to give anyone jumps because of those surges

whenever someone asks for it, I tell them that it could cause problems for my system and I'll call roadside assistance for them.
The fact that you actually stopped shows that you are willing to help and are not a prick.

stop no. If asked my excuse is either, "i don't have jumper cables" cuz i don't or "i just got this car and dont know how the manufacturer wants this done, sorry", worked great when i had the bmw. as soon as you told them the battery is in the trunk their eyes glaze over and would say nevermind haha

No! I run them over and pick up the illuminated cash scattered on the ground.

This is one of the reasons I don't understand why ALL cars don't come with a self-jumping feature. Mandatory for safety.

It would eliminate a lot of unsafe situations - being on the side of the highway, stuck in a bad part of town, etc.

In the bimmer, no, I've seen / heard of too many problems with our electrical systems resulting from a jump gone wrong.

In my truck, sure, if they aren't too sketch.

I'd be inclined to help most the time unless the person looks very sketchy. I don't carry cables on me though, so they may be out of luck on that end.

In my poor student days I got jump started plenty of times and thumbed rides plenty of times. Say what you will about dangers, but I owe the system/karma/whatever. I jump folks when they ask and typically pick up hitchhikers (unless obviously drunk/crazy/armed).

I helped people jump a few times already. But I have the machine in the trunk. It jumps start directly from the machine. I don't have to connect it to my car's battery..

Depends on the person really. If I don't want to give someone a jump, my excuse is, "The battery is located in the trunk underneath a bunch of panels. I don't know how to remove them and get to it. Sorry." They don't know that we can still access power from underneath the hood.
