Vinyl application for e93 chrome trim

Okay, just took delivery of Melbourne Red e93 M (Convertible). The chrome trim is hideous on such a sporting car. What was BMW thinking!!

I looked into replacing the trim pieces and evidently, they are part of the roof and cannot be removed without destroying the seals in the hard top.

Has anyone tried applying vinyl to the trim? Have you left the trim on the car during application? How does one get around the mirrors on the door trim?

Any help appreciated.

Did they install the vinyl with the trim still on the car? How did they do going underneath the mirrors?

I did it myself in a few hours. Bought a roll from bmwshadowline.com in matte black. The part under the mirror I just did as best I could. If you inspect underneath it there is still some silver trim exposed. But to the general observer at most angles, it looks perfect. Been on 8 months now and holding up great.

Take your time, use a heat gun or blow dryer to get vinyl to conform, prep area properly and you shouldn't have any issues. Do it right on the car.

Had the local tint company do mine for a little under $100. Did it with trim on the car and looks like it came from the factory that way. They got under the mirrors as best as possible and you can't see any chrome unless you stick your nose under it. It's really no big deal at all and looks 10000% better.

Hey Steve

Another one lol. I just got my trim wrapped from a vinyl place out my way. Was just under $100 and you can't even tell there is chrome underneath.
