Eclipse Motors CF Diffuser PROTOTYPE
01/29/09 UPDATE:
1. I'm taking $50 deposits. We're going to have a group buy for the first 20 orders, with a group buy price of $445, a $50 reduction over our retail price. Please submit your $50 deposit via PayPal to e@eclipse-motors.com 2. Took the diffuser to the body shop today for fitment alterations. Being this is our 1st prototype, there were a couple of issues with fitment. We're using bondo to fill in the gaps so that the next version will have perfect fitment. Once the bondo cures, we'll remove the diffuser from the car and send it back to Taiwan for mold modifications. 3. Final production units should be ready by the beginning of March. This is our first stab at getting a carbon fiber product to the market, so I'd greatly appreciate everyone's patience so we can get this right the first time around. 4. E90 users: we're actively working on molding an E90 M3's rear. This will take possibly two months before we see a finished product, but be rest assured, I'm trying my best to get this out there. ________________________________________________ Some of you will remember that around a month ago, I announced that I would be making a CF diffuser for the E92 M3. It would take the design of the Vorsteiner diffuser and cut off the left and right sides. The day after I announced it, Vorsteiner and all their vendors announced virtually the same thing. At the same time, I received legal threats from Vorsteiner to discontinue development of my product. Being I was first to announce the concept and well beyond the 15% design change threshold to be considered legal, I stopped talking about the product and quietly went ahead with the development. Today, I'm happy to announce that we've built a prototype that features a perfect 1x1 weave and a flawless clear coat. We're using the same production process Vorsteiner uses: CF on top of fiberglass. We're expecting to sell the diffuser for approx. $495, well below the VRS Type II's $1,125 retail price. While this prototype includes three middle "fins," once we achieve a final production model, we'll be releasing a similar diffuser, only without the middle fins. 01/31/09 UPDATE: Pictures of prototype on my car added. KEEP IN MIND: bondo has been added to the edges so that the final production unit is properly molded. Last edited by eclipsisNA; 02-03-2009 at 12:27 AM.. |

I wish you best of luck.
IMO, I like the middle fin idea on the VRS style diffuser a lot. Maybe you can tweak that and make a slightly different shape of fin. That would work, right? |

WOW, congrats man. Its great to see that u went ahead with ur original idea and did what u originally and initially had planned to do quietely without anyone knowing and bothering you about it. I agree with the rest, I kinda like the middle fin idea. Either way, whatever u come out with, Im in.

Looks great! Excited to see it on a car. If the fitment is great count me in.
Just curious, does this have the inset groove where the double sided tape sits? The V Type II has that to allow the diffuser to set flush. |
