Any information on Hotel Bel-Air?
Wife and I are looking for a weekend getaway, and I think she'd like it. Any thoughts?

What specifically do you want to know?
Do you just want to hang out there for the weekend? Or, get around town? It's located kinda in the middle of nowhere (meaning residential BH) so you'll need a rental if you want to see the sights. But for just hanging out and going nowhere, it's a nice spot. |

How far do I have to drive to see anything? We'll have a rental.
I've been in Los Angeles/Malibu/Santa Monica before, but it's been 5+ years.

It's off Sunset, so you're close to UCLA/Westwood. The beaches are a bit farther down Sunset to the PCH. The drive along Sunset is nice providing it's not around the UCLA rush hour traffic.
East on Sunset will be the Strip (famous clubs, etc..) I'd advise just one or two side trips, because getting anywhere in LA takes time. I'd just hang out at the hotel. It's a really pretty spot and nice and quiet. |

you won't have to drive THAT far... but it all depends on what you are trying to see while around the LA Area.

I think we'd want to visit someplace in Santa Monica/Malibu near the beach at least once.

Not sure when you're coming over, but instead of Santa Monica or Malibu, why don't you try Hermosa/Manhattan Beach? It's a bit of a drive, but also a bit of a different vibe.

This place is suppose to be nice and they seem to be dropping their prices a bit.
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...ropertyID=3171 The Hotel Bel Air gets ranked as one of the most romantic resturants.

in that case Bel Air Hotel is only 20 minutes from Santa Monica, Venice... Malibu on the other hand depends on what part of Malibu... closer the pepperdine side or closer to santa Monica side.

You don't want to stay there. Unless you like maximum density. It's on La Cienega at San Vicente (huge intersection) south of the way overcrowded Beverly Center. Yeah, it's hip and cool on the outside, but it's all facade.
The Hotel Bel-Air is much more romantic and with a rich history. It's in a beautiful and lush residential area. On windy Stone Canyon. Rent a car and head for the beach. From Stone Canyon, drive west on Sunset to the Palisades (have breakfast at Vida's if you want to see some of the locals like Jamie Lee Curtis) and then down Temescal to the PCH and up to the 'Boo. |
