Thanks everyone, especially to Kmarei for his images.

For everyone thinking of doing it, it was very quick if you do it through USB. I couldn't find my large Flash drives, so I just used my SD/CF card reader and copied each of the iso contents it to 1xSD and 2xCF cards, all formatted FAT32. It took a little under an hour and was quick and easy and painless. I used the glove compartment USB port.

Maybe someone can experiment, by coping all the contents of the pkgdb in each ISO to one massive pkgdb folder, since the config.nfm files are identical in each ISO.

I meant for the installation process, after I got the FSC code, which was pretty quick.

I'm assuming you put all 3 ISOs on removable media. But how did you get the system to check for updates? I'm baffled.

I just formatted 3 USB drives with FAT32, and copied the config file and pgkdb folder from each of the ISOs to the USB drives.

I plugged the first USB drive into the glove box USB port and it auto-detected after 10-20 seconds that I had map updates. I said start, it asked me for my FSC code, and now its updating. Will post pics of my results.

success

Did mine via USB. Got my FSC code from *******, took about 45 minutes to reply to request, got my code < 5min after paypal completed. Half the price quoted by others. Also had a blank version screen until I completely shut off car and restarted. Nothing really different, just updated maps. Worth it to do it yourself, if you have to have the latest, a complete rip-off at the dealer.

Random tip for those using card reader and an assorted of memory cards:

You have to unplug and plug the usb cable in when you insert a new card, so it will detect it and not just unplug and plug the memory card in the card reader.

This is true. The same holds if you are storing music. My kids each gave me SD cards with thier favorite music. So I used an SD card reader to upload the music through the glove compartment USB port. Each time I inserted a new SD card into the reader, I had to unplug and replug in the reader into the USB port.
No big deal but at first I thought I had some bad writes on the SD card.

I got them from "fscmap@gmail.com" for $100. He only accepts payment through Money Bookers (kinda sorta like pay pal).

About an hour later I received an email from
another source "sergej markovic [*****************]" who wanted $82. I have heard alot of good reference to *******.

Both are legit.

When I started to look for a way to upload my maps a few weeks back, I called my BMW parts guy. He said that they pulled all of the DVD's out of stock and now he just has a part number that you have to buy.

The part number buys you service hrs to bring your car in and have the techs plug-in a flash drive or (MEMORY STICK as he called it) to your glove compartment USB and load up the maps same as you did.

What a screwed up racket BMW is. BMW caught wind that the FSC codes are avaliable to be purchased so they eliminated the only other piece of the puzzle, the actual software DVD's.

Next year we need to get our hands on the actual files that ONLY BMW will have. This just presents yet another obstical that we all need to overcome.

Looks like these maps are for the 09+ Nav only, right? I have the 2008 iDrive/Nav, and I'm guessing these aren't going to work, even with the proper FSC code.

2008 doesn't have an internal HD so all the steps above doesn't pertain to you. Your car has a disc you insert.

I beleive that in 2008 you have the CCC version of the NAV system (No Hard DRive) which uses a DVD that is inserted and the physical DVD is stored in the NAV system.
In 2009 the NAV system is a CIC version (with the Hard Drive) and the data from the DVD is stored on the hard drive. This sytem also uses different DVD disks than the CCC system.
The CCC versions of the DVD's can be found out there.
