[Problem Solved] Engine Oil Leak?
Hi, I found an engine oil leak when I opened the hood today as shown in picture 1. Is it normal? In fact, the cap is tight.
And in picture 2, it is black in the bottom, is it normal? Thanks, Eddie [Updated] Thanks you very much for all these great info! ChrisK is correct! The gasket under the cap gets curled over. So I know how to fix it now. Last edited by renaissance; 06-23-2011 at 10:53 AM.. Reason: Problem Solved |

Possible they spilled the last time it was serviced and you hadnt noticed? Or overfilled it?
That doesn't seem normal.

Has happened to me too. Just a little excess underneath the cap. There was another thread talking about it...let me try to find it.

I have never seen that and i have a 08.... wipe it and drive it till its warm and see if it leaks again otherwise you have a leaky oil cap.
i remember seeing that the older model oil cap does that and they replace it with a newer cap. but yours looks to be bad. lets hope you dont have an actual leak and hope that the dealer made that mistake on spilling the oil... but usually they will wipe it. Good luck.

I had this happen to me after my first service. Sometimes the gasket under the cap gets curled over and it doesn't seal correctly.
Check, clean, reseal.

Your cap is different from mine. I have an 08 where mine is the star pattern. Try changing your cap?

That's the NEW cap (and it's fugly). No need to replace old ones then. Mine is perfect, but I was the first to suggest to coat the gasket with a film of oil, just like you should do with cartridge-type oil filters. Problem solved. Mine hasn't leaked a drop, it's an '08, and I use the car for trips, where rpm is close to 4K most of the time. Problem with this car is the gear drive on the intake cam throws oil directly at the cap, so any 'bunching' of the gasket leads to a leak. And yes, it shouldn't happen, but now you know .

I have the new cap also and there are residues around the cap after a few thousand miles. Would be nice to have a better cap design but I can live with cleaning it every few thousand miles. Any one know of a nice aftermarket cap that doesn't have this problem?

I've never had spillage from the old oil cap. you guys with the new cap should complain to the dealer and get the old one.
Oh boy, I can see it now, all the vendors now will be stock piling old caps and make a good $ off them. lol |

Same problem here
I just got my car back from my annual check. One of the things I complained was the oil filler cap and the service department told me that there is a service bulletin. What happens, is anytime the cap is coming off, people flip it over and have it rest for a while. During that time, some oil is dripping behind the seal, etc which once it comes back on, flows out out and over the engine. So their recommendation is anytime it comes off, have rest in the same position as its on the engine. I tried that and I have noticed there is no more oil leaking out of the cap. Anyhow, hope it helps and good luck out there.

problem solve(engine leak)
Recently, I found out there might be a leak on my engine. After I got home from work, I can hear some sort of sizzling noise. I think the noise is around the engine oil adding place. It sounds like water drop on the very hot pan. I can hear about 4 or 5 drops.
Have anybody ever experience this before? |
