sorry joe, not meaning to push your buttons. i don't know everything about cars, but i've read up on the gt-p and i've seen the numbers. still, the gt-p is a ford and what i mean by that is, IMHO, it lacks the design, style, and build quality that you see in the M3. take it or leave it at that, no need to make assumptions about who i am or what i'm like. btw, did you mean Alpina? or maybe alpine white?

The Ford lacks build quality? Your opinion of ford is mistaken when it comes to quality. Better than BMW recently.

how can an opinion be mistaken? its exactly that, my opinion. thanks for the article from JD...interesting read, but i didn't see that GT-P or the M3 on there. i'm not talking about Lincoln towncars here. i'm still sticking to the fact that quality of M GmbH and their craftsmanship on the new V8 engine and overall M3 design is superior to Ford. thats just what i think, hence IMHO.

An opinion can be wrong. "I think a Ford Mustang is faster than a Z06" That is just wrong, and the idea that the M3 is of better build quality is also wrong, according to the statistics. Obviously the Gt-P isn't on there, but you said Ford in general.

The fallacy, in my opinion, is equating reliability to build quality. Reliability is often a consequence of design simplicity, not superiority. It is likely that a Honda Civic will outlast an M3, yet the quality of the materials in the M3 blows it away.

i'm going to have to continue to disagree...i see your point on an opinion being wrong when it comes to things that have factual evidence. we know that a ford mustang is not faster than a Z06, you are correct. but when it comes to something like design or quality i think thats a preference that can't be based on numbers or surveys. the report that you posted talks about assembly line defects, it doesn't assess the overall quality or design of the GT-P or the M3. Just because a Lincoln TownCar is good doesn't mean the same for the GT-P. Similarly, just because the X5 is good doesn't mean that the M3 is good. Basically, even though the Ford plant has a low ratio of defective vehicles per each 100 that come off the line it is still possible that these vehicles are not of high quality.

the civic/M3 analogy in the previous post also supports this point. considering that a civic is a lot less complex than an m3 in overall parts and design, it is reasonable to assume that Honda would have to make less effort at their plant to produce civics without defects than BMW would have to make to ensure that M3s are produced without defects. this could potentially mean that the Honda plant has a higher quality rating than the BMW regensburg plant because it has less defects per each 100 vehicles. but you'd be an idiot to think that means a civic is of better quality and design than an M3 (i'm not talking about reliability here).

maybe i went too far with my ford comment in the OP, maybe not. sorry if i offended you with that one. i'm still going to go out on a limb here and say that I think BMWs are better than Fords and that Fords are not very well made cars (but i've never driven or even seen a GT-P in person, so its totally subjective here). I know that this is very generalized statement and could be considered car racism. Still, my personal experience with three Ford cars has lead me to believe otherwise. the two BMWs i've owned, on the otherhand, have been outstanding. maybe its just luck or my experience, but thats about all i have to go on. its just my opinion and my .2 cents.

cheers

No offense taken. I'm just tired of everybody still dogging on American cars. I know their quality was really bad in the 80s and throughout most of the 90s but GM and Ford have really changed. I am buying an M3 here in a few months because I love the car, but I still have the most respect for American sports cars. I still believe the Corvette is the best performance car made for the money, and if all my friends didn't already own one, I'd probably be getting that instead of the M3.

Well, for starters, Alpina don't offer a car with the M 6-cylinder engine, let alone in an E92 body. They offer the 335i engine in the B3 Bi-Turbo. Secondly, Losers are those who's literacy is of a level I'd have been ashamed of in primary school.

Hey BMW M Mexico, i think a M3 avatar is more appropriate than a C63 lol, especially considering you own a E92 M3 now!

Hahahaha!!! I hear you. When I get a really good unique pic of my M3, I will post it instead. I do also own a very special C55 AMG through. The pic is actually a Brabus Bullit, a V12 Twin Turbo C class, not a C63!!

I wonder if BMW has possible canned the "CSL" cars.... I mean BMW also said they were going to make M6 CSL but now they have already started testing the next gen 6er and there's no sight of an M6 CSL. Maybe its not profitable?
