but unfortunatly its people in this situation/age group who dont really appreciate the toys like people who worked hard and matured to be in a postion to own an expensive car...I was driving used beaters till I was 25..and got into my first brand new car at 26 on my own..
The whole point of the post was that wrecking this car put into perspective that although this driving this car was an amazing treat for me it also represents real value that was just dissolved in the blink of an eye. If you believe that any accident is to a certain degree avoidable (some more avoidable then others) then that is a god damn shame. If you also notice, another point of the apology was that this accident probably perpetuates the exact generalization you made about M3 owners which a lot of people have to deal with when they cut off by haters on highways because they see an M3 rolling up in their rear-view mirrors and the prejudice kicks in. Shit, this is why I was heading to the canyons in the first place!

I wasn't really looking for the "aww shucks", but it is nice to know that either other people have either been through this or are helping me look forward to my next M3 with some positivity. If they can chime in with some advice or a plan of action, that would be even better.

For example, I actually was already scheduled to go to Fontana next week with NASA, so I knew about those type of things. However, I had no idea there was actually a track in Riverside where I could take my car for $20 and 30 mins to try messing around with some settings. Did you guys also know they are building a Porsche track in Carson or something that will have 4 public tracks in it? That is all great information. Also, I didn't know that BMWCCA does trainings with skidpads etc. Thought I had to go to South Carolina or something for that.

Anyway, you can take away what you want from this thread but there is some value here if you take it the right way. There has been for me at least, so thanks everyone.

P.S. I talked to my insurance company about all this stuff. Nothing compromising here. Thanks for the concern on that subject though.

Clearly you have great taste. I honestly can't think of a color combination I would like any better. So understated but bold and timeless. Good luck with yours man. I had my car backed into earlier this year and the body shop did a great job matching the paint so tell your co-worker that he won't even remember that happened once they fix it up.

If one person can learn from your mistake behind the wheel, this post was worth it. I drive these same roads, and this could've happened to any one of us.

Consider yourself lucky that you walked away unharmed...

All I can say is that I'm glad that you are uninjured. Don't be too hard on yourself-no one else was involved or injured.

Sorry to hear about your car.

That's because you live in The People's Republik of Kalifornia. Tract houses on 1000 sq.ft. lots don't run $1 million everywhere.

Even without knowing anything about SehrSchnell, by looking at his join date (Dec 2007) and claimed age (17 years old) he started posting on M3post at age 12. Man, you are a prodigy!

Live and learn, right? Don't be so hard on yourself. In the end, it's just a car and your fine. Move on and next time maybe you'll be more careful.

I've got mixed feelings about this. It really is a shame about your car and the pole and all that jazz, which I hope all gets resolved painlessly.

However, this story is yet another testament to the lack of knowledge and understanding of an owners vehicle. This incident was undoubtedly inevitable considering the thought process of a human. A person will continually push the envelope until you are either caught, or dead, especially pertaining to fast cars. OP and I and everyone else knows for a fact that if this accident didn't happen, you'd go out next week and rip the canyons even harder than the last time, and for this, I have no sympathy. You're lucky you didn't hit an oncoming mini-van with a family aboard and kill somebodies husband and disable a kid. Go to the track to where these cars were born and raised on, pushing your car to it's engineered limits, SAFELY.

I will say that it is nice to see OP owning up to his actions and trying to avoid this in the future.

Disagree with what I had to say or consider myself way too safe?
Ask me where my best friend is.

Jeez dude that is quite a wreck! But lad you're okay. Cars are replaceable; you're not. Major kudos to the mature post as well.

Next car...Individual M3?

what the hell are you apologizing for? you had an accident. you hurt nothing but your own ego. accidents are accidents. if you were driving like an idiot you deserved it. if you weren't it was an accident. plain and simple.

apologizing to every car enthusiast M3, BMW, or otherwise is ridiculous.

glad youre not hurt. move on.

Car vs telephone pole = death.

You have a new lease on life man. This is like your second chance at life... make good on it. Be a good person, work hard, don't take the important things in life for granted. You did a good post, we can all learn from you.
