MS lug nuts are crap

Got a set of MS 10mm spacers less than a year ago which includes the new black lug nuts. The black is wearing off the damn lug nuts already and they look like crap. Anyone else have this issue?

I have only had mine for a couple weeks...so we'll see...

Maybe get them powdercoated?

For that cost, better off buy new/better ones.

It won't take long, when I switched to my winter tires in November they were already starting to look like crap, dull and grey. Guess they cheaped out on this part of the package.

Maybe the salt messed them up...maybe they'll last longer down here... I guess we'll see.

You should never powder coat lug nuts. When you try to torque them down you will run into problems. They will not have a proper fit and you will most likely damage the powder anyway. You can pick up a set of black anodized lugs and be much better off.

yep, plus once you powder coat them your wrench won't fit right. Black anodized is the right way... Just wish they included a better set when you buy the spacers.

A number of things can contribute to scratching, from excessive installation to the incorrect size socket being used to install the lugs - even stock BMW lugs are not immune to this.

The lugs are zinc-oxide coated, do not powdercoat them. Do keep in mind that anything with metal to metal contact will wear at some point. How often are you install/installing the lugs?

They were installed only once, before this happened. Correctly I might add, I've been working on cars for quite a long time and know how to properly install lug nuts. My guess is they are just cheaply made in China. It is not scratching, the coating is just wearing off.

Wow, I was afraid the post was going to be about some kind of failure or breakage. I have MS lug nuts so that would have freaked me out. If it's just cheap finish I can live w/ that.

I havent noticed any issues with mine. Ive had them on for over a year with my 12mm spacers.. ill take a closer look though just to double check.

Through 3 different set of wheels, and numerous installs/removals ours are almost perfect as well.

I will have to take a look at mine - only used for my snow tires. I do remember thinking the quality of the spacers looked pretty good but the finish on the lugs looked cheap compared to the OEM ones. I too know how to change tires and have the right tools but thanks for your input Tom
