Good question. It's a matter of how you read that statement. Does he really mean M cars as in all M cars or does he just prepare the "crowd" for the introduction of the M-X6/5 with a turbo V8!?
In general it might not be that bad to have a turbo engine in an M3 or M5, as long as the redline is way higher than 6.5k... Best regards, south

I think it was expected news. With increasing mpg standards and the hp wars, with no end in sight.

True Epacy.
Begs the general question - would you rather have a turbo charged M or a hybrid M. Assume both retain their high-revving redline RPM. Might make a good poll question actually. You could add diesel too, but I don't think anyone has figured out how to make a high-revving diesel yet, at least not one that is viable in production. |

IMO the question is: Which one needs less reduction of the redline, that'd be my favourite. Best regards, south

Personally I hope that M is able to do one more round of pure naturally aspirated motors with HPI. These could well be the last of era. |

I agree, so long as M cars keep a good high redline say 8k or so, I could dismiss the non conformity of turbo M's. Just imagine the 2012 M5 with 630 Hp, direct injection, twin turbos and and an 8000 RPM redline. Where do i sign?

With fuel economy restrictions it's pretty clear that manufactures must come out with options to save fuel. GG tax will go up eventually. |

I have mixed feelings about the addition of FI to the M cars. At least I will have the E92 M3 and can just keep it if I don't like the direction they decide to go.

no its entirely possible, although I can see the F10 M5 costing about 100-110K. but just imagine it... engine wailing at 8000 rpm, turbos and intercoolers produce a deafening whoosh, it'll be like my old car, tha Supra.

That's 2000 rpm more than the V8 TT in the X6 has...

As long as the Power Dome keeps getting larger, I don't care!
