Fuel Pump Sensor

Hey guys, couple of days ago I had to take my car in, because of an increase in emission message that appeared when I had started it up. The techs at BMW says my fuel pump sensor needed to be replaced and it is not part of my CPO warranty. I am now stuck with a $500 bill, parts and install included. I'm curious if anyone knows if the fuel pump sensor does indeed falls out of the CPO warranty coverage.

My car has the same problem but I took it to my local garage... the mechanic cleared the code for me and told me to keep driving it until it shows up again... My car is out of warranty.

There is a good procedure for this here. Check the DIY section or search on it; it didn't look too difficult and the part is a fraction of your $500.

I was told the same, but warned that running with a faulty fuel pump sensor will run the car rich and can cause damage to the M3 motor.

There's a new style sensor that requires replacing the section of line it goes into as well. The old sensor has a fat base and exterior o ring seal. The new ones have a tapered base, which is why you have to replace the line as well.

Running the car a little rich is not going to cause damage. Running it lean can.

Mike, thank you for the clarification. The folks at BMW ordered the wrong part and now I have to wait 2 weeks.
