Bad to run PSS in front and conti in rear?

long story short, i want to replace my front tires. the tread isn't low, but i believe the tires are old and it has the hard feeling.

only issue is that my rear's are brand new. all tires now are conti 5's i believe.

i want to eventually run PSS all around, but don't want to spend money on brand new rear tires when mine are already new.

i could possibly sell the rears, but it would be a hassle.

i really don't want to buy used "newer" fronts too since the point is to get new tires.

what would you do???

on any other car i was just driving, i wouldn't care. on an m3 where i'm going to occasionally screw around, i don't think i would want the front/rear traction ratio to be variable.

Probably won't be able to notice unless you're aware of how much better four PSS should feel. Just run them staggered on different tires and burn the hell out of your rears. My rear PSS last about 60% the length of my fronts so by the time I went through two sets of my stock Conti rears, the fronts were ready for a second set and my rear were ready for a third pair so that's when I went to all PSS.

The Conti5Ps are an extremely good tire, in fact I liked them better than my Mich PSS. Do they not have the size you are looking for in the 5Ps? To answer your question, it generally isn't a good idea to mix and match tire brands and models.

I would get the Mich PSS for the rear as well and just sell the rears.

It's not optimal, but I suspect you won't notice a difference on the street.

It would drive me crazy to have two different brands of tires on my car

You can always try it. Take it easy until you get a feel for how it will react with the different tires. If it doesn't work well you can always get the PSSs for the rear at any time.

true true for all answers...i didn't put all info for my situation

1) i plan on keeping the car for another 2 years maybe shorter
2) i only drive about 8K miles a year
3) no track, spirited driving but it honestly doesn't get driven that much
4) i am kind of OCD where it would bother me with 2 different tires

i might just go with the conti 5's and call it a day. found a pair on eBay for $125 a tire

my fronts have 6/32, but the DOT date on FR is 48 12 and this tire has a bubble. the the FL has a DOT date of 48 11. so i know the tires are old.

i just checked again and my rears match my front of conti 3's (i thought i had 5's)

would it be an issue to run conti 5's front and 3's rear???

If you're just driving to the grocery store and back like a grandma (which from what you said is the case) then I wouldnt worry. That is the setup I run currently on the street. PSS in rear and Conti in the front. No big deal as I just cruise on the freeway at drive speed limit.

On the track is a different story.

Agreed. This will only matter at the limit of the tires.

AWD car - completely different story.

My opinion on tire mismatch is, if you can drive, smoke em if you got em. If you think you can drive but have never turned a wheel in competition before, maybe leave DSC on.
