Lease Buyout "inspection" Fee?
Went to the local dealer today to sign docs for buying out my maturing lease.
They wanted me to leave the car with them overnight, and charge me 1,000$ for a "used car sale inspection fee"! As I drilled the salesman about this fee (what are you inspecting?) he became evasive and fidgety. I asked if this is a bank/loan fee? "No." Would I have to pay this fee if I just wrote a check to BMW financial services or garnered financing through alternative means? "No." Isn't there a year left on the warranty? "Yes." So what exactly are you inspecting? "uhh." Finally he relented and said it's something imposed by management and they can't move on the fee. Anyone ever heard of this bullshit? |

Also known as the customer rip off fee in some states
Most dealers have an inspection service for when you are buying a used car from someone That normally costs about $250 I see no reason why this inspection would cost 4 times as much

They are RAPING you TWICE.
If you're within 3 months of the end of your lease, the dealer will get your car at the Auction price, which is considerably lower than your buyout price. They can make $3,000-4,000 right there if they sell it to you at your Residual price. Then they're sticking another $1,000 on top of that!!! My 2008 was listed at $36,000 on the trade in at the end of the lease, and the dealer then had it listed for $44,000 the next week. The residual was over $40,000. .

What dealer is it? I am sure having their name handy on this board can help others avoid same issues when finishing the lease or help new buyers avoid them altogether

It seems as though the stealers are getting worse as the brand becomes more successful, I guess that's to be expected, but I like to think that the average BMW buyer can see through their greed!

Scummery...what a great word!
I've bought 3 BMWs in the past 4 years (E46 M3, and 2 650i's for the wife) and none of them have come from the dealer closest to me (Southwest Houston). I walk into the showroom and I feel like a disgusting film has been spewed on me by the salesmen. I agree that dealers exist to make a profit and it's business, but consistency in up and down markets builds repeat business. Now service on the other hand - my SA is awesome and has treated my family like gold since 1993 when my Mom bought her first Bimmer. We've had 10 or since then and the levels of service keep getting better and better which tells me that loyalty does pay! Last edited by nv6425; 09-27-2011 at 06:45 PM.. |

WTF! That's my dealer! Thanks for the warning. Bought 2 cars from them. On both of the cars, needed to have the paperwork corrected at delivery in order to reflect the deal we already agreed to. One of them was a lease, so I will make sure I know the conditions well before the actual turn in date.
