Lighter and with more engine weight towards the center. Porsche is realizing the horsepower protection plan isn't working. Mid-engined is the way to go and they're probably going to slowly move it forward each generation.

can't get much shorter behind the centerline of the axle, they may find a way to move accessories and other stuff forward of the axle

I initially thought it grew too much. I have to admit to grudging admiration at the advances made. The Carrera S is only one trim from the bottom, a road car in every sense. The GT3 will have to be much better, as it always is.

They can flip it. Instead of front-to-back transaxle ->engine where the engine hangs behind the wheels; turn it into a real mid-engine. Obviously die-hard Porsche fans are going to bitch and moan for a while but whatever... Look at the relatively recent test on Cayman R vs GT3. It was so close! And the Cayman was undertyred while having less power.

Ouch, which test was that? I definitely want to read the article.

If it was mid engine then it would no longer be a 911. I have read that they are going to make (maybe still a rumor) mid engine 458 fighter slotted above the gt2 but below their halo car.

In that test the gt3 also had better tires (sport cups I believe), with equal rubber the gt3 would have had trouble...
