Custom DSC Module -- Anybody Making One?
The P-car and C-car guys can get aftermarket DSC modules that re-tune their suspension for the track. As in, stiffen the front shocks going into the brake zone; stiffen the outside front corner at turn-in, etc.
My acquaintances who use them say they're amazing. It would be great to find one for our cars, especially since our DSC is not on par with the stock P-car and C-car gear. Anybody have a line on a company that's developing one? If there's one near me that needs a development platform, I will lend them my E92 for a couple months in exchange for a discount on the production unit down the road. |

Not as comprehensive as what you're talking about, but have you tried getting the Euro mdm coded? Loosens up the dsc intervention thresholds.
Also I'm not familiar with a c-car, what is that? |

C standing for Corvette. My friend is getting this installed in his C7 Z06. Supposedly it is a game changer. It will dynamically adjust your suspension settings depending on where you are at on the track. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1399175 It's confusing because the DSC doesn't stand for traction control here, lol - "Dynamic Suspension Control" rather than "Stability"

I thought the BMW traction control was a good back-up system on the track while I was learning car control on the wet skidpad. But now that I'm past it, I sure don't miss it. And damn, did it eat through track pads in hurry. Sheesh! |

i don't know if our tech would allow for improvement. this is ten year old technology. vehicles are almost like electronics... ten years is pretty accelerated in terms of technical age.
what i'm thinking is, out EDC dampeners might not offer the same range of adjustment as newer shocks, maybe by length of stroke or by soft/firmness. i have personally found myself to be faster on certain tracks with edc on "comfort" mode. it is heavily dependent on track condition/surface. i just don't know if we have the quality of valving needed for improvement through electronic tuning of the edc system.

I can't recall who makes the p-car electronic shocks but I wonder if EDC has the response time to make this beneficial. It's an order of magnitude slower than the MR system

Interesting, but this is one of those scenarios where I trust the OEM more. I'm pretty skeptical of that DSCSport company seeing as how they don't post any objective data about "the C7 Corvette was X seconds faster with our calibration versus OEM when driven on the same day by the same driver".

GM stability control systems, even the hot versions, have a reputation going back to the C5 Z06 for erring on the side of caution and yaw stability especially under braking, meaning lap time wasn't even a tertiary priority in tuning them. I wouldn't be surprised if there are low hanging fruit to exploit

Based on the stuff that Tadge (the chief Corvette engineer) has shared about how sophisticated the newer PTM is in the C7, I think those days are long over. GM really stepped up their game.

Should note that the C5 Z06 system was bleeding edge at the time it was introduced especially for a 5-figure MSRP. But not perfect either way, I saw a C7GS the other day and I wouldn't care if it was in ice mode all day every day so long as I could look at it every day...

Hmm, I've talked with multiple 2016 & 2017 SS (and even SS 1LE) guys at the track and they all rave about how capable the car is. Never heard them complain about the ABS or PTM. One of the regulars even has a 2015 Z/28 and he has never complained...then again, that car has so much tire I'm not sure it matters. :-p I've done 8 track days in my GS and am absolutely loving what the PTM setup lets me do. It's also amazing to see my times improve as I work my way into the less restrictive modes.

I have it. Just waiting to get it put on the car (along with my film, lol). By all accounts, it truly is a game changer and several have reported several seconds worth of improvement in lap times. The Z06 tends to yaw on launch and on the 2-3 shift, which the DSC controller (and an adjustment to rear caster) claim to fix. Tuning profiles can be saved, uploaded, and shared, and there are a few files floating around the C7 forums for different tracks. I'll report back when I get it installed. Looking to do a track day in December.

its supposed to... i have never really read a technical breakdown of how our EDC works. i think there is a lack of interest because most people just take it off.

One of the C7 guys, who also posts here IIRC, runs the DSCSport controller and just put up a new PB at VIR:
