Do you have it linked to drivers side via the "all" button by mistake? At which point the left knob ceases to operate

Is the "All" light on the passenger-side control illuminated? If so depress the button, and try again.

Is "All" the residual heat thing?

I believe Pre-LCI had rest button which uses residual engine heat to heat the cabin when the car is turned off (correct me if I'm wrong), and LCI had "All" button, which configured the driver and passenger to be the same temp.

I think your knob is broken

How the heck do we get the "All" setting in our earlier cars? It's so dumb to have to turn both knobs all the time...

Just buy a later climate control unit (2010 or 2011 up) and plug it in, and wala- you have all. Just make sure you note whether it has heated seats or not. 100 bucks max on ebay. Get the latest one possible (look for production year 2012 or 2013 on the back stickers... they have updated graphics on a few of the buttons which I thought was cool...)

Note -- I did this, and I have a convertible, and it works. But now I have to have it coded to my specific car because the "convertible program" for when the top's down is now gone.

That sound easy. I had heated seats and the controls were mounted down under the radio. So the wiring must be different?

I agree. My M3 has it, but my F30 does not and I'm ocd so both temps have to match.

Try jumping from one car to another. I end up turning both knobs out of habit regardless of the car.
