???? The KERS system is and electric motor-generator sandwiched between the engine and transmission. It harvests electricity and stores it in a Li-ion battery which can return the power to the motor-generator for added acceleration when needed. How the heck is that like a turbocharger, even if it is electrically driven?

Most of the F1 KERS troubles are related to the siginifcantly overcharged Li-ion batteries they use and the problems associated with temperature management. I would think that the proposed electric turbo will not have power-harvesting or power storage abilities.

That's not very comforting. ///M cars are supposed to have passion and history behind them. It's not something that should be "easily" done.
it doesnt mean it wouldnt. figure, including utilizing the same motor, its not much more then a tighter and better suspension to slap an M badge on. god doesnt make the M cars while bmw makes the regulars.

The 3rd unit would only change the HP/TQ curves, not the peaks. By your logic, a 10-turbo engine would be better than 2, and that's not the case .

Indeed. Good observation. Can't imagine the complexity and weight, when customers don't want any more.

I just can't understand why not just give up gas-guzzling individual throttle-bodies and leave the S65 with a single (or dual at the most) TB, rather than go 180º and end up with an equally heavy and more complicated V6/I6 TTT contraption ? A V8 TT is not going to happen, so it'd be a modified S65 V8 with about the same power or a more powerful FI 6 (a larger NA V8 is out of the question too). I much rather have the former than the latter, but it's all but guaranteed the latter won. BMW lost a customer in me, but am sure they'll gain many others; that's the way it is. Good day gang.

BMW has a rocky reputation with Turbos-unlike Audi/VW/Porsche who've taken decades to perfect it.

I'm always about giving the brand the benefit of the doubt but I suppose we can all agree at the very least-No Quadruple Turbo will ever sound as good as a hulking great V8 at full rpm or for that matter any N/A Inline 6 such as the S54.

No chance for the new motor to sound like the freat S65,but i hope it will be very unique like all M cars,if it's gonna be the best in the category as usual so i don't mind it!!!!

TTT I6 sounds insane.
I mean, i've experienced trashing my turbo in a 530Dat, in US currency, it cost me a couple of thousands to fix.
So if all three turbo's went south, that's 6.000 USD at least.
This beeing a S engine, i'm sure we can conclude at least 10 grand og these turbo's blows.
New tech is cool when they work, but after a few years, it will cost alot to maintaine down the road imo!
Looking at S38, S50, S52 and S54, all reliable NA engines that holds up great imo.
And it's not like BMW love the direction the CO hysteria goes, they cope with it well, but the enviroment crap complicates everything, and in the long run, makes it more expensive for us as consumers.

I'm going to highly doubt that the M3 would share an engine with a freakin X3M, let alone that BMW will ever produce an X3M.

Damn nice catch. I was thinking when I first read it the "3.3L" as to what the heck that was. Makes total sense now, nicely done.

Now THAT is something that is of great interest. The only problem is that CSL usually means "Can't Sell to Lunkheads" (we Americans.)
