M3 yearly Property Taxes in FairFax County

Guys -

What are you paying for property Taxes on your M3 if you live in FairFax County? I just moved down here from CT and the Taxes on my 72K Range Rover Sport and 79K 550I Sport were cheaper in CT than the M3 I'm looking to get while here.

Can you guys let me know or give me an idea as to what you pay for Taxes on these cars?

you can go to the FFX county website and look it up.

For every 100 dollars in assessed value of your car, its a $4.57 tax.

so depending on when you register your car, FFX County will assess its value by year, make, model, and mileage. If you think their assessment is wrong, then you can dispute it.

theres also a tax relief act where it it applies to the first $20,000 in value to your car. Don't quote me on this, but say if your car is worth 40,000, tax relief kicks in, and so you'd only pay tax on the remaining $20,000.

so using your car as an example:

if FFX County assess your Range Rover for 79K, and it qualifies for the tax relief act, then

79-20 = 59

So 59K divided by 100, then x 4.57 = 2696.3

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dta/cartax_pptaxrelief.htm

this is the DMV website that may help as well:

http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/ge...tr/summary.asp

maybe you should have moved to Maryland, where they don't have 'car tax"

I saw this and could hardly believe it could be correct. Which would mean that an M3 Valued at 70K the yearly tax rate on it is 3200.00 or $266.00 a month? Wow!! this is bonkers!!! I'm moving back to CT.

Seriously is this what you guy are paying for taxes on these cars?

don't forget the tax relief act.

If your car is less than 7k lbs, and is personal use, minus $20 K then estimate taxes from the delta

they also assess depreciation of the car. So what ever your car is worth by the Fall of this year, minus 20K if your qualify for tax relief (i think you should) then you would pay the delta based on the formula.

So basically you're saying I would only be paying the 4.57% on 50k which would = $2,285.00 year / 12 months = $190 a month .. Still crazy high..

Thinking of keeping my CT registration.

Are you a VA Resident? I saw your license plate was a VA plate so I assume you are a resident.

I'm active duty military, and a VA resident and still have to pay car tax.

Am i missing something?

From DMV website: "Any person who is active in the military is exempt from taxation if his/her home of record is outside of Virginia pursuant to the federal Service Member's Civil Relief Act"

Either you are misinformed, or i'm misinformed.

theres something missing here if you are Active and paying P. Taxes...
I can only guess that Va is your home of records, that is why. If not, you need to file an exemption form at the Govt Center here are Fairlakes, so you would be exempt from Property Taxes, and/or get the monies you paid refunded to you.

Ase2dais,

correct, I am a VA resident, and VA is my home of record.

I was curious about Day Laborer if he was a VA resident. If he was, and not paying taxes, was wondering what he is doing different. As in, is there another relief act that i'm not aware of.

Well, the assessed value is less...more like the base price. My $70k m3 was assessed in the mid $50s.

Yeah...it's BS!
