Top of Pikes Peak went limp mode engine malfunction
Hey guys,
I drove my M from Dallas, Texas to Colorado Springs. We drove up Pikes Peak this morning in the M3. I pushed the car hard, as we were the first and only ones on mountain on a monday morning at 730am. When we reached near the top my car went into limp mode and said engine malfunction. Code was gonna and hasn't come back after restart. Car seems fine now. I am hoping it has something to do with my 93 octane tune and the elevation...? BMW here was nice, but no help at all and tried to say my car might explode. I can pay $150 to pull codes though which I might do... I am also interested in what anyone thinks could have caused it. I thought it was a misfire, but now im thinking the incline might have messed with oil pressure? I am fully catless with BPM stage 2 93 tune if that at all matters..... Car is running fine now, but I am 800 miles from home and a little sketched out... Last edited by FOURSIXTEEN; 08-17-2015 at 04:05 PM.. |

14,114 ft in elevation man... you're gonna be fine for the drive home. The car probably couldn't adjust the timing enough to compensate for the elevation change.

If it is the throttle actuator, you'll see it again. It'll pop up.

Use the BPM software to check for fault codes and send them via email or PM. Could be anything..

there is significantly less oxygen at 14,000 feet and the m3 wants a lot of it in high rpms. i think its safe to theorize that has something to do with it.

Just got home to texas, car drove fine all the way home. We had to run 91 till we got into texas. Pulled the codes, and here is what I had stored.
We went to Mt Evans too two days after pikes peak and the car went into limp mode at nearly the exact same elevation. I feel like it has something to do with it for sure... // 1) 2B4E Combustion misfire with emissions deterioration several cyl // 2) 279D Power management battery closed-circuit current violation // 3) 27C1 Info Tank leer bei Fehlereintrag // 4) 27B5 Clutch switch manual gearbox // 5) 27E4 INDEX_212_INJ // 6) 2B57 Motor emergency programm activated // 7) 2796 Motor emergency programm activated |
