New Car Prep - What do you think
Hey All -
I am taking delivery of my 2011 Jerez Black this coming week and wanted to run this detail by everyone to make sure I have all the necessary items and that I am not leaving anything out...also should I treat the leather my old 335 had been on the dealers lot for about 4 months so I treated it, but not sure in this instance...(the car just arrived in Baltimore today)? Products: P21S Tire Gel Pinnacle Auto Wash DP Foam Extreme 85RD Polish Blackfire Sealant Wheel Wax Pinnacle Souveran Wax Griots Clay Griots Speed Shine Tools: Lake Country Blue / Black Pads (6-7 of each) MF Towels Waffle Weave for Glass EZ Detail Brush Small EZ Detail Brush Wheel Brush MF wash mitts Griots orbital I think that should cover it...but if anyone has thoughts / suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry for long post but I am slightly paranoid about my soon to be baby as I have always wanted an M3 and now have the opportunity to purchase one! -chris |

Something simple which I am sure you left off the list...
Multiple buckets with Grit Guards! Really helps keep the dirt in the rinse bucket versus on the paint! I go over everything on a New Car Prep. Wash Clay Light Polish Protect Interior Vacuum Protect/Condition etc. With Jerez Black go get a foam gun, it will help loosen the dirt prior to putting a mitt on the paint... -Martin |

Martin D is right, get 2 buckets with Grit Guards so that you can keep your sponges free of dirt. Quote:

I'm going to redo your list but in the order in which you would use the products. I've had experience with every product you've listed. Some are decent, some are terrible. If I've removed a product from the list entirely, there's no need for it.
CG Wheel Gel (dilute this): http://www.chemicalguys.com/Diablo_G...cld_997_16.htm CG Citrus Wash & Gloss (formulated to remove grime and shipping wax): http://www.chemicalguys.com/Premium_..._p/cws_301.htm CG Blue Clay: http://www.chemicalguys.com/clay_bar..._202_180gr.htm CG Clay Lube: http://www.chemicalguys.com/Spray_Wa...wac_116_16.htm Menzerna PO203S: http://www.detailersdomain.com/menze...inish32oz.aspx Menzerna PO85RD: http://www.detailersdomain.com/menze...ompounds-.aspx CG Speed Wipe (Quick Detailer): http://www.chemicalguys.com/Pink_Qui...wac_102_16.htm CG Sealant & Pete's 53 Wax: http://www.chemicalguys.com/BEST_SHI..._p/hol_111.htm CG VRP Dressing (for tires, doesn't leave excess grease): http://www.chemicalguys.com/Tire_Shi...tvd_107_16.htm Tools: Swissvax Wheel Brush: http://www.detailersdomain.com/swissvax-wheelbrush.aspx Gilmore Foam Gun: http://www.chemicalguys.com/FOAM_WAS...p/hol_ff_2.htm x2 Buckets w/ Grit Guards:http://www.chemicalguys.com/Professi..._p/acc_101.htm Sponge: http://www.chemicalguys.com/wash_spo..._p/mic_492.htm MF Towels (you'll want at least 12 towels total): http://www.chemicalguys.com/MONSTER_...ic_1100_03.htm Porter Cable Orbital: http://www.chemicalguys.com/porter_C...uf_100.1xp.htm Lake Country Orange Pads: http://www.chemicalguys.com/Lake_Cou...uflc_102_5.htm Lake Country White Pads: http://www.chemicalguys.com/Lake_Cou...uflc_104_5.htm For your leather, I would use these products in this order: Swissvax Leather Brush: http://www.detailersdomain.com/swiss...therbrush.aspx Leather Master Soft Leather Cleaner: http://www.detailersdomain.com/leath...ftcleaner.aspx Leather Master Vital Conditioner: http://www.detailersdomain.com/leath...nditioner.aspx Leather Master Protectant: http://www.detailersdomain.com/leath...ner1liter.aspx Quote:

IIRC, the Griots orbital does not allow different sized (especially smaller) backing plates that you would use to correct smaller spaces on the car. Trust me, there are tons of smaller spaces on the E9* M3. That's why I recommended the PC.

I think the new verz enables you to take the plate off...not 100% sure but thats what i heard. What size backing plate would you recommend for the small spaces? I def want to pick up the right tools for this job...Thanks for all the tips Eclipsis, greatly appreciate it...

No problem, this is what you want: http://www.chemicalguys.com/Backing_...lc_bp_da_3.htm
The pads are linked at the bottom of that page. |

[QUOTE=JIO;7366471]Am I the only one with obsessive compulsive disorder who puts their M3 up on jack stands and then proceeds to clean and polish the underside and all the suspension parts?
Looks to me like those are a bit better than the average persons jack stands. |

Eclipsis, i have read quite a few threads where you discuss detailing, first one where you link the detail of the M3 and have come to the conclusion that you know your shit... i have gone through this list of items you put on there, but at CB site they have this setup:
http://www.chemicalguys.com/DETAILIN..._p/hol_107.htm what do you think about this? is it worth it? maybe throw in a few more items? i am also expecting delivery of a JerezBlack M soon and would like a great detail kit... i have experience detailing, but this is the first time im actually researching the products. usually used maguires or turtle wax on my other vehicles and never really paid attention other than that it looked good... anyway, help? thanks! |

I talked with a couple of detailing buddies and it made sense to me. If the car has been produced to be delivered to your door, the curing time for paint is generally 30 days. I would hold off from anything but a basic sealant until that time has elapsed. (I use collonite).
